I've decided this morning that I want to cut out all animal products from my life.

I have an 8 month old baby and don't know whether it's best to raise him eating meat and dairy due to the health benefits whilst he's growing up, or whether it's ok to raise him vegan too? Anyone whose been in this position I would love to hear what your experience was and what you chose to do.

Has anyone else gone vegan? Did you find it hard? What was your reason?

AIBU to consider this whilst breastfeeding? Not sure the the nutritional implications.

Any advice much appreciated :)

My suggestion would be to join a group on Facebook. There are plenty of mummy and baby vegan groups too and they’ll be able to answer all your questions and from their personal experience.

I went vegan in 2014 because it was a last ditched attempt to try and improve my debilitating interstitial cystitis (had been ten years under the care of a specialist at that point and had numerous surgeries). Much to my shock and amazement it didn’t improve it it cured it!!!!! I still can’t quite believe it. My specialist was in shock too!

Now vegan for ethical reasons and I’m literally thriving. Also the lowest weight I’ve been as an adult which is awesome!! Grin

I know lots and lots of thriving vegan babies and children and veganism has been proven to be appropriate at all life stages. There is so much choice for vegans now you won’t miss out on a thing!

Beware though, everyone becomes a nutritionist and B12 activist when you go vegan so you need to educate yourself as much as possible! Smile
