Can you have a false positive pregnancy test?

Hello all,

I have been feeling really nauseous and weak, despite having a possible period last week (could have been early pregnancy bleeding)

I took a test and it came back positive
2 more later said negative, but I'm aware the earlier in the day the higher the hcg levels. I have had my tubes clamped too, but this can fail if a clamp falls off.

I am due at the docs tomorrow for bloody work, but AIBU to think I must be pregnant? You can't really get false positives?

This is the worst possible time I could have become pregnant! Has anyone had similar experiences? Anyone had false positives?

I think if there’s 2 lines you’re most likely pregnant. Your HCG levels might just be quite low. However, it might be an evap line. Was it grey and did you read it within the time frame?

Have you got a pic of the positive test?

Allforall · 26/06/2019 19:04

Yes here's a Pic, looks very faint on the Pic but it's red/pink
My friend was with me when I did it and said it's deffo a positive line.

It came up Pretty instantly, the test line

If it came up quickly, and is pink then very unlikely to be an evap line.

Rachie1973 · 26/06/2019 19:06

It looks like an evap line. Try a digital.

Looks very much like an evap line; if a further two tests were negative then I'd leave it 48 hours and test again.

Hope you get the outcome you want.

ImpossibleNovelty · 26/06/2019 19:08

Do a digital or a first response early response. I’ve had lines like that that were false positives.

Allforall · 26/06/2019 19:13

It's frustrating the Pic isn't really showing the line how it was and is. My friend and I both looked and saw a faint red line very quickly after the test was done, so unsure it's an evap line. It isn't Grey. I actually don't want to be pregnant.

I think menopause can cause false positives, as can certain medical conditions.

Allforall · 26/06/2019 19:15

Thanks all. I'll do a digital tomorrow
Why am I feeling pregnant if I'm not? All a bit of a coincidence. The reason I tested is because I feel pregnant and was panicking. Very odd.

Asda ones have thrown up false positives for months but are still on shelves. That doesnt look like an Asda one though.

wellbuggerme · 26/06/2019 19:16

get a frer.

ReganSomerset · 26/06/2019 19:19

I don't know how old you are, but menopause can cause symptoms very similar to pregnancy.
