...I didn’t get a promotion I really wanted

Meh. Just feel sad. I really wanted it. Was trying so hard to be cool and smiley about not getting it when my boss told me earlier today that I didn’t even ask for feedback.

I also feel kind of embarrassed because other colleagues know I went for it. Anyway. Just wanted a little moan. How have people cheered themselves up when not getting a promotion? Right now all I can think is a slump on the sofa and maybe a big glass of wine if I can be arsed to get up. Sad

I’m sorry OP! You’re allowed to be upset, it’s disappointing when we don’t get the jobs we want.
Have a big glass of wine and a chocolate bar or something, do a bit of moping and feel what you need to.

When you feel a bit better it’s still worth following up with your boss to get some constructive feedback and find out what they advise for improvement

And try not to get worried about your colleagues, you’re not the first or last person to not get a promotion and it’ll soon be old news.

Oh no. Well done for trying, anyway. Maybe order in?

Thank you both. Wine and takeaway, and then yes - tomorrow I will ask for proper feedback.

Good plan. :)

Enjoy the wine and take away. Hope you get something constructive in the feedback.

Wine and takeaway and chocolate and whatever you need to feel better. Tomorrow ask for feedback and ask if any shadowing is available. Work on any development points and smash it next time!

winewolfhowls · 24/06/2019 21:23

Don't be embarrassed, someone had to not get it. Noone else will be thinking anything of it, except probably well done for trying. It is gutting though, and there's nothing wrong with a bit of moping and a takeaway. Tomorrow is another day!

OP! This EXACT thing happened to me.

It felt like the end of the world at the time as I SO wanted the job.
I cried...and cried...and cried 😳 😳😳

It spurned me to look elsewhere and i took the job just to escape but it was hands down the best thing that ever happened to me my salary has doubled since I left AND the total shithead bully guy they gave the job ended up getting fired/leaving within a year as he had to go to prison!!! 😂😂😂
