To ask what birthday present to buy for new date

He’s going to be 48
Met OLD - only had a handful of dates so I don’t know him that well but want to get him something but really stuck for ideas....

We know him even less well than you! How about tickets to a film/show/exhibition that you can go to together? If you’re only a few dates in I wouldn’t spend much on material things.

Would you/he feel comfortable buying the likes of a small gift? T-shirt,cap etc? Or how casual is it? Would like a 6 pack of beer/bottle of wine and his favourite sweets go down better? I had only met my partner twice before her birthday so the night before it (as she had plans the night of it) I took her for dinner and paid for that and all drinks just bought a card - hard to believe 6 years ago now!

Something to eat or drink. Nothing too expensive.
