Aibu re Ikea and delivery

Buying a new sofa, and chose the ikea Ektorp 3 seater and a matching armchair. They then told me (via the order page) that the sofa was home delivery, but if I wanted the chair I would have to collect in store. I have a small car and there is no way the chair would fit in it, even in flat pack form. I also have had a terrible time there (when I had a bigger vehicle) in that no one would help me manoeuvre (despite promises to the contrary) 2 Billy bookcases into the car, and I ended up hurting my back.
Surely if they are delivering a sofa they could also deliver the matching chair? The upshot is that I have bought elsewhere. I know this is how ikea keep their costs down, but you'd think they would give you the option of having matching items delivered together, I wouldn't have minded even if they'd wanted to make an extra delivery charge. Aibu?

You could just order it online and get them both delivered.

Thehop · 23/06/2019 12:44

No, that’s daft

Littleduckeggblue · 23/06/2019 12:50

Why didn't you order them together online?

longearedbat · 23/06/2019 13:01

I did order them together online! When the page came up with delivery options it said that only the sofa was available for home delivery, the chair had to be collected from the store. There was no option to have the chair delivered with the sofa.

It actually said "no home delivery available for this item".

Contact them and ask if/when it will be in stock for home delivery.

Failing that can you pay for someone with a van? It's a common question on my local fb page.

longearedbat · 23/06/2019 14:13

It's not a matter of it not being in stock, they will not deliver it, end of. I am at at risk of repeating myself, but they will not deliver items they reckon you can get home yourself. It's in stock in the store.
Anyway, it doesn't matter now, as I have ordered from SofaSofa. I wanted loose covers, and SofaSofa, like ikea, do those on the sof a and chair I have selected, with the option to get spare ones, so same difference really.
I was only posting to see if others have had this problem.
Anyway, very excited as it's our first new sofa for 16 years! Current one is killing my back.

I juts had this- no home delivery option, and it was because it was coming straight from the warehouse- however if I went i to the store it phoned the store, they would be able to organise a home delivery from them, if that makes sense? Maybe phone and ask if that's a possibility?

PineappleSeahorse · 23/06/2019 14:15

That's weird. I wonder if it varies by area. I checked on their site and they'll deliver an Ektorp armchair to me for £39. It seems madness not to do so, not everyone has a car.

maltesersplease · 23/06/2019 14:15

I don't think it's to do with the sizes - I had six kallax insert boxes delivered the other week. I think it is just stock and it would come back in stock at a later date.

TremblingFanjo · 23/06/2019 14:16

I had this with an item last year, I tried again a week later and it was fine. Try changing your home store and see if you get a different answer - it might be a stock level issue.

hula008 · 23/06/2019 14:19

I just checked on my local IKEA and the ektorp armchair is available for home delivery

Blackcountrychik83 · 23/06/2019 14:24

I work for a well known company selling furniture and this comes up a lot. Its probably because there is no stock in the warehouse of that chair but the store have it in stock. Deliveries tend to come from the warehouse unless the store itself offers a seperate service. We get it with washing machines. None in stock for delivery yet we have one sat in the stockroom but our store delivery van can't deliver it because its a 2 man delivery so has to come from the main warehouse.

pikapikachu · 23/06/2019 14:25

A lot of people (businesses?) on eBay/Amazon/FB will sell Ikea furniture at a small premium. I live less than 5 miles from Ikea and there's businesses locally who will pick up and deliver Ikea stuff.

longearedbat · 23/06/2019 14:28

Well, out of curiosity I tried to order the ektorp armchair again and it still says not available for home delivery. However, I then noticed that the colour I selected is being discontinued (in very small writing), so on reflection this is probably why. They've got one in the shop, but not in the warehouse, probably. Oh well, never mind. I am sure it didn't say that the other day, but I might have missed it.
Thanks for everyone's input anyway.
