Aibu to be freaking out here?

In a nut shell, my 17m old son has been poorly. I took him to hospital on Saturday with a lump on his neck. They gave oral antibiotics and despite this it had doubled in size by Monday.

He then had iv antibiotics and we have been sent home every day with his cannula in.

Weds PM and thurs am he had fever spikes. Since Thursday his temperature has dropped to 35.4. Prior to weds his last fever was sunday. He's now been placed on oral antibiotics in addition to iv.

He's relatively ok in himself. But then he always is when poorly. The lump on his neck has gone down and an ultrasound has confirmed it's only swollen/infected lymph nodes.

Low temperature is just freaking me out though. It seems to be every time he sleeps. Yet they don't want us to go back until meds time Saturday afternoon

Hi, firstly, when it comes to your children and their health, of course its only natural you're sensitivity is going to be sky high so dont beat yourself up.
I think really though you're building it up a little, break it all down, so the lump is getting smaller and docs have confirmed its okay, so therefore this part is okay. Next deal with temperature, which you've not given too much detail about but im not sure sounds like a problem because everyones temperature drops when they sleep i think.
Xxx

Dr Google has done me no favours here. An escalation in meds plus very low temp...

Probably I am just freaking out

Hi op! Just to reassure you a) sleep lowers temperature as metabolic rate is lower and b) it’s a sign the body is fighting the infection now and putting energy into that as opposed to being overrun by it. Hope little one is okay and yourself! Time for some self care

You are completely sane and in no way unreasonable. You are scared, which is definitely reasonable! None of us know what is happening to your son, you can only trust that the hospital would have kept him if they felt it more serious

Thanks all. He dropped down to 35.2 at its lowest overnight. I'm exhausted

Hows everything this morning @HalyardHitch? X

HalyardHitch · 22/06/2019 10:01

He's ok again today. But then he has been ok most days. It's mostly when he sleeps.

I guess they haven't given him extra meds for no reason. I'm not massively sure what it is though

Aibu to be freaking out here?

So that med commonly treats infections and is an antibiotic, doesnt look too scary, im sure he'll be fine in couple of days xxx

HalyardHitch · 23/06/2019 06:30

He's much brighter now, thanks @jackio2205
He hasn't had a fever drop for nearly 24 hours. Hoping to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. I'm sick to death of cannulas and the parking is costing me a fortune - they only subsidise your parking if you're an inpatient and they are sending him home every evening
