To be freaking the freak out!? (wedding dress related)

Hello Smile. Some advice please and maybe some wine too as I'm stressing...

I am due to get married late August. My first dress fitting was this afternoon and it was an absolute disaster!

Due to the design of my dress (which is a second hand designer number for £50 off eBay) the seamstress who is very good at altering bridal gowns says that it's either going to cost me at least £600 to have major repairs done to (and it may look as though it's been alteted or I should go back to the drawing board and try and find another dress.

PANIC STATIONS

At this point for a number of reasons, my only option is to try and find a cheap second hand alternative. This has now made me look at other options, and perhaps a dress that is more suited to my farm/rustic style wedding.

But I'm freaking out - it's so late in the day to be ordering dresses, trying them on, potentially returning them, doing it all over again and getting alterations made...

I've been to Wed2B and tried on some dresses but didn't like much of the styles. I also don't have that money to spend on a brand new one.

Wow, this is going on Blush. Sorry, I'll wrap it up now...I am looking at Boho floaty style dresses as well as a-lines (all must have even the smallest of arm coverage).

But what the hell should I do and has anyone, ever, anywhere been in a similar situation? I would imagine not as most brides are organised...

Any advice? Jeans a tee down the aisle?

Monsoon do some lovely bridal dresses that are very reasonable. They also have some lovely matching shoes :)

happycactus · 21/06/2019 23:00

Get a second opinion on the dress. I paid £80 for small alterations in a bridal store. Friend paid £50 for lots of alterations, which included moving beads, with an independent seamstress.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 21/06/2019 23:03

Something like this? Or more floaty?

Have a look at Debenhams as they have quite a few to choose from. Look under prom dresses in white though rather than wedding dresses as a big price difference!

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 21/06/2019 23:07

I got my alterations done privately at a little local place £90 the dress shop service wanted £475, or was actually the lady who worked in the shop who told me about the seamstress. I took DHs jacket in to have it taken in a bit and they did it for free because they were doing my dress! I've used then for loads of things since

There are lots of wedding groups in Facebook who are really helpful in situations like this! I’m going to spam you now with a varied selection.

Boohoo have lots of white maxi dresses in the boho vibe under £50:

A £50 dress is not going to be a quality dress I'm sorry OP. Get down to Monsoon or similar and look at their bridal range

BikeRunSki · 21/06/2019 23:17

Etsy?

nevermorelenore · 21/06/2019 23:19

Relax! Even Next and Debenhams do wedding dresses nowadays and you can get next day delivery. You have plenty of time.

I really like the dresses at www.unique-vintage.com/ too. They’re USA based but shipping doesn’t take long and they have lots of fluttery, beaded styles.

nothingtowearever · 21/06/2019 23:24

Have a look on ChiChic. They have amazing dressss on there and they're really really cheap. All the reviews are amazing! Worth a look. A mixture of normal and wedding dresses. Was going to offer mine but it's a massive princess one so not the look you're going for! Don't worry you have time x

tolerable · 21/06/2019 23:25

reformation or minty square?

StillWould · 21/06/2019 23:28

This is lovely (and just might possibly have been my wedding dress). I wasn't looking to save money it just looked so much better on me than dresses that cost ten times the price!! I bought it two weeks before the wedding and managed to get alterations in that time. Relax you will be fine!!

If you feel inclined to get a second opinion on the alterations and you are anywhere near Glasgow, I would recommend Alter Girls near Charing Cross. They did great corrective work on my dress when I ran in in a panic about two weeks before the wedding. Can’t remember how much but it was cheaper than I expected. Less than £100 I think.

Mrbay · 21/06/2019 23:35

I'm pretty sure H&M have a wedding range as well.
Are you set on white? As you would be able to pick up a coloured dress for much less.
Oh and check out fairfax and favour Instagram for relaxed wedding footware.
Oh congratulations!

PepsiLola · 21/06/2019 23:38

Ignore me, it's completely out of stock in every size! Why still show it on the website grr
