To ask what colour to paint my front door?

Hello

We have terraced house painted a brick red colour (v common in Manchester where we live). We have a nice wooden front door with stained glass panels currently painted a hideous shade of turquoise and peeling.

I'd like to paint the door but not sure what colours would go with the house. Thinking maybe navy blue? Or a sage green?

Any ideas? Thanks!

Love the sage green

Navy would work - but if I’m the sun all day will pee quite quickly

bridgetreilly · 19/06/2019 12:32

I'm not sure about sage green with brick red. I would probably go with navy.

HariboLectar · 19/06/2019 12:38

You could take a photo of the front of your house and use this feature endurancedoors.co.uk/design-your-door/ to see how different colours would look?

I'd be tempted to go for a royal blue though.

we have a red brick house with bright red door. Its hideous so we are painting it a navy blue.

Theres a big fashion for sage windows and doors the last couple of years and I think its going to look dated quickly.

Napqueen1234 · 19/06/2019 12:52

Thanks for you advice- I agree navy blue may be the way to go. Our back gate is sage green so worried it might look a bit garden-y.

@haribolectar thanks for that link!

My auntie just did her Victorian terrace in F&B green smoke, with black knocker/letterbox. It’s a sort of dark sage and looks very smart and in keeping with the property.

theWarOnPeace · 19/06/2019 12:56

Another F&B colour that I like if you’re thinking navy, is Hague Blue. With brass fittings would be beautiful.

KC225 · 19/06/2019 12:57

White. But maybe because I am in Sweden and a lot scandi houses are red with white

Napqueen1234 · 19/06/2019 12:59

I'd love a bright yellow but have a horrible feeling it would look dreadful next to the red!

My ground floor flat is red brick. Painted my front door a glossy dark green (not quite British Racing Green) nine years ago. Still immaculate and everyone says it's a really good colour.

Napqueen1234 · 19/06/2019 13:01

Liking the idea of green but maybe darker than safe- love green smoke @theWarOnPeace apparently green is considered the most welcoming door colour maybe that's why its so popular @ShatnersWig !

Love a navy blue myself, was going to say that before I saw it was one of your options.

foreverhanging · 19/06/2019 13:13

Sage green is lovely. I'm about to paint my door pink Grin

hellsbellsmelons · 19/06/2019 13:15

Coffee colour would look nice.
I like sage green
Or grey?

Napqueen1234 · 19/06/2019 13:19

@foreverhanging I would LOVE pink but pink and brick red would be awful.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

We have a beautiful teal stained glass front door (inner anyway, PVA hideousness outside)
I'd love a purple door, but I appreciate my tastes are probably more colourful than most lol.

If you’re looking for inspiration try the hashtag #victorianfrontdoor on Instagram.

What colours are in your stained glass?

Napqueen1234 · 19/06/2019 14:21

Thank you @maidenover good ideas although all the houses are so gorgeous it makes mine look terrible! Grin
