AIBU to wish Angela Merkel well?

I've had a look for another thread on this so I do apologise if there is one.

I just wanted to wish her well really. Nothing else. I'm a little apathetic about her politics to be honest - never really looked at it too much in depth, but she has a stoicism akin only to our Queen.

I really hope it was just dehydration - though I suspect she TOLD the doctors that that was all that was wrong!

I feel like she's the only grown up still running things and works incredibly hard. So yes I agree with you. I'm not sure her stance on immigration didn't inadvertently lead to a lot of the rise in fascism though, even if she was trying to do the right thing.

Medievalist · 19/06/2019 05:58

Gosh I felt so sorry for her. How awful for her with everyone watching.

Oysterbabe · 19/06/2019 06:18

That can't be dehydration surely?
How awful for her.
Yanbu.

AnyFucker · 19/06/2019 06:21

I saw this and wondered why the fuck the bloke stood next to her appeared to offer her no assistance at all

It reminded me of Hilary Clinton a few years ago. At least folk tried to help her

Birdie6 · 19/06/2019 06:25

AnyFucker I don't think he knew it was happening - he appeared to be staring forward and possibly she was out of his sight line.

Poor her - it's hard to imagine that dehydration would make you shake so violently. I hope she's all right.

AnyFucker · 19/06/2019 06:26

Somebody shaking so violently would definitely catch your eye from your periphetal vision

StealthPolarBear · 19/06/2019 06:26

I had no idea. Yes I have a lot of admiration for her

I saw that too, I have a lot of admiration for Angela Merkel and wish her well

^^ this. She's standing slightly in front of him in the video. That may be the camera angle but he must have been aware. But maybe he was thinking that, if she didn't turn to him for help maybe she wanted to battle on and not make a fuss.

PianoTuner567 · 19/06/2019 06:35

He probably didn’t know what to do. Helping her would be making a fuss, not helping looks callous. Plus they were standing for a national anthem or something at the time, by the look of it, so it was a ceremonial moment.

Looked bad, I was shocked to see that.

Sparklybanana · 19/06/2019 06:43

I can’t believe that no one went up to her to make sure she was ok! Awful watching her suffer visibly for so long.

schoolcook · 19/06/2019 07:37

I felt so bad for her watching that.
I think she's an incredibly strong woman.

Because he's the newly elected Ukrainian president, a comedian totally out of his depth, whose previous top achievement was playing a piano piece on the stage with his penis, and is probably paralysed with fear and about to faint himself.

AnyFucker · 19/06/2019 08:47

That might explain it Smile

ChicCroissant · 19/06/2019 10:35

I saw this last night, I hope she's OK too.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/06/2019 10:47

Her people noticed but it seems no one came to help because they were playing the national anthem, or so that’s what I thought.

StayAChild · 19/06/2019 11:09

Very uncomfortable viewing. Someone should have come to her aid surely, National Anthem or not. She must have felt very ill at that point. She appeared to recover quickly afterwards.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/06/2019 11:14

I kept thinking someone will come over to get, but they just left her.

gifdaft · 19/06/2019 11:27

She is standing down in 2020 or 2021?
I hope it’s nothing serious.

Totur · 19/06/2019 17:23

She strikes me as someone who would have pulled the cannula out of her arm and demanded to get back to work. I've no idea what causes such tremoring, but it must have been incredibly scary to feel so powerless to control it. Haven't seen any news coverage today saying she's ok?

speakout · 19/06/2019 17:25

She make a video statement shortly afterwards and looked absolutely fine.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/06/2019 17:40

There wasn’t much in the German media yesterday, she said she was dehydrated and three glasses of water fixed it.
