How likely to be pregnant under this circumstances?

I am married, DH and I have been talking about having a third and want to start trying soon so it wouldn't be a disaster if I am pregnant...

I am not the best at taking the pill. I probably take it 80% of the time. I rarely miss two in a row, but I would say I probably miss a few pills here and there every couple of weeks. For example I might take the pill for 4 days consecutively, miss day 5, take day 6, miss day 7. I am planning on coming off of the pill anyway in the next couple of months.

The last week or so I have been feeling very weak, tired and my sense of smell has been through the roof. Almost gagging from the smell of things that normally wouldn't effect me (this was one of my early symptoms with my other 2 children). I took a test yesterday and it was negative.

I am just wondering what the efficiency of the pill is, when missing odd days here and there, but never consecutive?

Quite high I would’ve thought.

Honestly you might as well not be taking it! Yes you could be pregnant.

We want to start trying in the next few months as we'd prefer a summer holidays baby - works better with my work (I am in education). But wouldn't be a disaster either way Grin

Why are you missing days like that? That's really odd! You need a long acting contraceptive if you have such a flippant attitude to pill-taking.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/06/2019 19:19

If you are pregnant you shouldn’t carry on taking the pill. It increases your chance of ectopic I believe so I really would either take it or don’t. As Grin as you think it is, it’s not sensible.

PregnantPill · 16/06/2019 19:19

I've been quite lax as of late because DH and I would like another anyway - I've also been working harder and longer hours due to the summer holidays approaching and increased work load so quite often have been falling asleep at night before taking it.

You should be taking folic acid if you're not already. Ideally take it for three months prior to conception anyway.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/06/2019 19:20

Then stop taking it!

Once you’ve had your third get a mirena. I took the pill militantly for years whilst in a relationship and then was single for a while. During the single phase I fell out of the habit and once I had that was it, I could never get it back into my head to take the bloody thing. Mirena was the answer. And it lasts five years.

DH will be getting a vasectomy after the third. I have had the coil and implant in the past and neither worked for me.

Hope you’re not a science teacher! The pill is obviously less effective if you take it at different times, or miss pills out. Wait a few days, then do another test...

AnyFucker · 16/06/2019 20:33

Just stop taking the pill

Why are you messing your body about like this ?
