Greece, Athens, Cyprus with 10/11 year olds

Just that really, looking for summer hols with 2 children not too expensive but family friendly any ideas greatly appreciated.

Give us an idea of budget and what kind of things you like doing?

Athens is wonderful, but it will be very hot and crowded in summer. Most historical/archaeological places which may captivate kids (Pompeii, Rome etc) are better at Easter or the autumn half term tbh.

No set budget kids like swimming beaches etc. I like sightseeing, shopping, spa.
DH sightseeing museums etc.

Pompeii was a nightmare with kids too hot and no shade.

Athens and Cyprus will be roasting hot in July/August. It will also be very expensive, Cyprus is a step up in terms of hotel standards compared to Greece. Northern Cyprus however, the Turkish side, is cheaper.

Santorini?

We went with 8 year olds to Athens and Crete. Just a day in Athens, went to the Parthanon and wandered the streets a little.

Then we got a villa with a pool on Crete. There were 6 of us so it was a competitive price compared to a hotel. We Hung out at the pool, hung out at the beach. Went to the Minoan Palace of Knossos. etc. We also rented a sailing boat (with captain!) for a day and had a great day out on the boat and at a nearby island.

We went in June, though. The issue with heat and no shade could be a problem in Athens in August. The pool, labrynth and sailing boat would be fairly good, though it might be hard if it was much more crowded then.

Isn't Santorini very expensive?
