To make a fuss about being bitten by an ant?

Accidentally leant on an ant and it bit me (ant is fine, happy to say), and it really bloody hurts - a big chunk above my elbow is nippy as hell and feels like it's on fire. Ants are tiny so I feel a bit stupid, I thought my pain threshold was higher than this. Anyone else had a painful ant bite or am I just a total wimp?

I have an allergic reaction to ant and spider bites. Hives that look like bruises etc. So you have my sympathy and YANBU

Ouch! I feel better now, thanks - was worried it was just me Blush

I got stung by a bee the other day for the first time in my life and it hurt so much more than I imagined! I thought adults automatically had a higher pain threshold for these sorts of things.

Red ant bites really really hurt YANBU

Zapata29 · 14/06/2019 15:40

Nesssie I can't actually remember what a bee sting feels like, it's been so long. I have a serious wasp phobia but haven't been stung by one since I was little, I guess it must have really hurt for me to develop such an intense fear of them.

Def didn't expect such a belter from a teeny tiny ant though.

Ant bites hurt like mad. Have you ever been bitten my a ladybird? That smarts as well

Zapata29 · 14/06/2019 15:42

I tried to figure out what species the offending ant was (visiting the in-laws in Poland) and as it turns out there's an ant Wikipedia, who'd have thought?

We endured fire ants in Texas. They swarm up your leg in seconds and you end up with hundreds of bites. They are the tiny messengers of Satan.

Antihistamine cream is good for bites. DH got bitten by ants recently and it really calmed it down.

cardibach · 14/06/2019 15:49

I used to get bitten by ants a lot as a child. Don’t seem to see so many now. It bloody hurts! Flowers (only a bit ironically).

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/06/2019 15:50

Yes, ant bites hurt. Much more painful than wasp stings. And bee stings.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 14/06/2019 15:51

I disturbed an ants nest once and had a few bites. Tiny hard red lumps but they itched and hurt for ages after especially when I was hot. Not pleasant!

SammySamSam09 · 14/06/2019 16:01

I get an allergic reaction from insect bites, especially ants. My mum is worse though. She puffs up so bad it's scary.

SilverySurfer · 14/06/2019 16:15

Sitting in the garden, took a sip of drink, burning in mouth, spat out an ant. Now examine drink before sipping.

Roussette · 14/06/2019 16:21

This does remind me of my DH who wraps his hand in half a roll of loo paper and says Ow Ow Ow when he's got a paper cut... I wish I were joking

Zapata29 · 14/06/2019 16:32

Rousette that made me laugh, to be fair though paper cuts are nippy!** Guess me and your DH have similar pain thresholds...
