To not know who to hire for this DIY

My ex moved out and left my main room stripped bare, I’ve tried basic DIY but I’m not capable of finishing it off nor do I have any tools

I’m in my 30’s so a bit embarrassed to ask my friends what kind of professional to hire to do the following jobs for me...

  • Wallpaper one wall (I have the paper but nothing else)
  • Lay laminate flooring (Hopefully I have enough I just have what the ex bought)
  • Put up an electric fire onto a brick wall (no fixings there currently except the socket)

Would it be like, general handyman? A decorator? I have no clue Blush Thanks in advance!

You often find that people will post on a local fb page brief details of jobs and ask for recommendations for plumbers gardeners etc. Might be worth a try

Checkatrade.com
Easily done

Try MyBuilder. Post the jobs you need doing and tradespeople will contact you.. no obligation to use them but at least you'll get some contacts and quotes

I would be wary of checkatrade as my ex is on there as a vehicle recovery mechanic.
He is a qualified joiner!

Go to taskrabbit and select general handyman

stucknoue · 12/06/2019 18:56

If the electrics are in place a general handyman should be able to do everything, as a tip choose an older person as they tend to turn their hands to anything whereas the youngsters seem to only have one skill

If you're on FB try posting in your local FB group for recommendations for a Handyman. Sounds as if it could all be done by one & you'll probably find they're a lot cheaper

My town has a free magazine thing that comes through the post, it’s filled with ads for local tradespeople. I had a mish-mash of jobs that needed doing and found a guy who advertised as being a handyman, but he listed the type of jobs he can do on his ad. Does your town have something similar?
