...to ask what's the problem with toilet brushes?

My husband is shocked that toilet brushes are not the "done thing" on MN and wants to know: what do you use to clean your toilet bowl in the event of a messy evacuation?

I said toilet paper, but he was not happy.
Help!

Just to add, I am most definitely not a poo troll or new member. Penis beaker, BBQ badger etc etc.

I’ve always wondered what they expect visitors to do.

Notashandyta · 09/06/2019 23:46

Poo bloody bits

gamerchick · 09/06/2019 23:50

Toilet brushes are not for cleaning fresh skids. People seem to think they are, hence the disgust Hmm

Gel the toilet after having a shit, leaves it pleasant for the next person and skids rinse off with the next flush.

Raggerty54 · 09/06/2019 23:50

Mil doesn’t have a toilet brush and it confuses and concerns me deeply!

Boutiquebea · 09/06/2019 23:54

I don’t have a toilet brush, I’ve always used bleach and a duck fresh toilet brush. So much more hygienic IMO

Jarstastic · 09/06/2019 23:57

Usually a squirt of bleach and a another flush flushes it away.

Also Duck fresh. Flushable (it’s like loo roll not wet wipes) but I tend to chuck it in the bin which has a lid.

theworldistoosmall · 10/06/2019 00:42

I’ve tried the gel and flush. Shit is still there

Namechange1990x · 10/06/2019 00:44

I use toilet brushes but you definitely need to buy very cheap ones you can replace regularly as yes they are rank (but so is wiping it) !!

I replace mine every month but I buy dirty cheap ones off amazon

Namechange1990x · 10/06/2019 00:44

*dirt cheap

OkPedro · 10/06/2019 00:45

Yuck! Swilling a brush around the toilet bowl and then putting it back in the holder..
I spray with anti bac come back after 10 mins wipe with toilet paper and flush

Anarchyshake · 10/06/2019 00:49

Don't know what it is I eat, then, but it doesn't just wash clean with a squirt of loo bleach and another flush.

We have a loo brush. They're not exactly the nicest thing to have because we know where they've been, and how often. But they can be freshened up with a flush after you've bleached and scrubbed. Eventually they can be replaced.

I prefer not to put stacks of chemicals and non bodily fluid items down the loo. It all ends up in the sea. Otherwise, there are some disposable products which are lovely and hygienic, but done properly, the brush is fine.

Trebla · 10/06/2019 01:32

All those chemicals being flushed into the oceans after organic matter. A brush is much more environmentally friendly. Scrub and rinse it under the flush water when you flush. Or put some paper in first before you shit to stop the skids. Bleach as an alternative to brushing is not good for our waterways.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/06/2019 06:42

A loo brush is to clean the loo, whether that is skid marks or just the regular clean
Just rinse the brush when you flush and regularly replace with a new one

A visitor is not going to want to leave it and come back in 10 minutes
Also very unlikely to want to stick their hand in your loo bowl, even covere with paper

Have a loo brush for visitors at least, or you shouldn't complain if they leave skids.

There is stuff out there these days that are not harmful to the planet. A little bit more expensive but not everyone wants to make their own.

LaurieMarlow · 10/06/2019 08:52

MN is ridiculous about loo brushes. It’s remarkably easy to keep them clean.

Why anyone thinks sloshing loads of bleach around and sticking your hand down the bowl is preferable, I’ll never know.

FlorencesHunger · 10/06/2019 09:30

I don't get it either, sure they are dirty but poo germs are everywhere. Not having a loo brush isn't going to change that.

I put bleach in the toilet and let it work for a few mins before using a toilet brush. I then leave the toilet brush in the toilet with the agitated bleach/bleached water for atleast ten mins or until I remember it's there. My toilet brush and the pot it sits in are as new.

That’s not great really is it?
