To ask if a virus could cause mouth ulcers?!

All of my family (including me) at home have had a virus of some kind this week, which seemed to start with tummy symptoms but turn into a bad cold. Didn't think much of it as DS goes to nursery two days a week and brings home all kinds of bugs!

We were speaking earlier and realised we had all had painful tongue ulcers for a few days: you can see red and bumpy bits and the tongue is very sore. But we didn't realise the other ones had it! Now wondering if it could have been part of the bug?

Has anyone had similar?

Hand foot and mouth?

Can you have hand foot and mouth with no visible spots?

Yes you can! We got spots about three weeks after the other symptoms you’re describing. The mouth ulcers were much worse.

Problem solved then- thanks!

I had ulcerated tonsillitis once which according to the GP is viral, ulcers from my tonsils all the way up into my mouth. Also felt like I'd been run over by a lorry, high temp and headache.
