A friend gave me the Sketchy Muma book after DS was born - only the second book after Wuthering Heights to bring me to snotty tears x

I love our son's music box! It's engraved with his name, time of birth and DOB. Also has photos of him. Ordered online I believe.

Offer to hoover/mop/hang laundry... better than any gift. I remember sweating buckets a couple of weeks post partum trying to hoover the stairs when I clearly wasn't up to it but I hate a messy house.

@PeterRabbitsBlueCoat that was such an amazing gift idea!
What amazing friends 💕 it really is the little things that help when things are tough x

I think the best present we got for use in the early days was a car seat blanket by Morrck. Gifted by someone who had recently had twins and said it was their own most useful gift! DD was born in December and it was so handy for keeping her warm, she looked absolutely adorable wrapped up in it, literally snug as a bug in a rug, and spent most of her time in it asleep.

DevonshireDarling · 09/06/2019 22:26

In currently pregnant with my first, we've bought all the basics but I've got a few friends making cardigans, blankets etc knitting and sewing them
Which I love. I feel homemade gifts are treasured more.

I also would love the items I can't justify myself to buy as I'm doing it all on a budget. So things like a beautiful keepsake money box, or beautiful muslins, things that's cost a bit more than the basics but would be lovely as a gift IYSWIM?

We would both also appreciate vouchers, food made for us etc. nappy cake sort of things are great too as nappies are definitely going to be needed etc

We’ve been given soft toys and blankets, but you never really know what a baby will take to and what cuddly item will end up being preferred.

I don’t know if I was ever given something very meaningful when my children were born. My favourite gifts to give, though, are Aden & Anais big swaddling muslins, because I find them so useful, and a copy of ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers, which he wrote for his own son. My children love it, and I always hope my friend’s children will, too.

Lansinoh. I didn't even know what it was when I got it but yes it saved me

TheInebriati · 09/06/2019 22:58

Premium bonds, but they are a lot more expensive now.

WhoatemyLindtbunny · 09/06/2019 23:19

I third the Tuppence & Crumble star wrap!! bought my own but have bought it for a couple of friends since, it was a godsend for us and has been well received by friends!

Treasured would be a name sign that a group of friends commissioned by a very stylish talented sign writer we follow on Instagram, the colours coordinated perfectly with some light fittings they knew I’d bought from Made for the nursery. Things like that are very personal though. It worked because they had insider knowledge of what I was doing in the nursery.

A very good friend in Aus sent me some Bonds Zippy suits and they’re amazing!! Really different prints and you can have them footed or footless which meant they lasted for ages size wise. Everything else has been pretty standard or lovely but woefully impractical if I’m honest.

I was thinking the other day that some really, really high quality baby towels would make a lovely gift as you just use them and use them also they do obviously grow out of them but some really good quality vests, the John Lewis Supima ones are lovely.

A morrck wrap for the car seat

And

my friends gave me a personalised memory box with bits in for dd; her name meaning, the single that was number 1, price of bread & milk, a stamp ... I've filled the box with little keepsakes through her life Smile

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/06/2019 23:40

I don't even know what some of these things are, but as there's going to be a new GC coming along soon I'm going to check some of these out. Thanks

Bedforaweek · 09/06/2019 23:55

@WhoatemyLindtbunny is there any chance you could share or PM me the name of the sign writer? I’m looking for something special for my little girl and this is up her (well, my) street. Thank you
