Hair salon closed - no notice afaik

I recently saw my hair salon of choice was empty, as in stripped out and devoid of any fixtures and fittings. I thought maybe it was being refurbished but there are no notices in the window explaining.

No text sent either. The phone rang out when I tried calling a couple of days ago as I need a cut, and now the number doesn't work at all.

So I guess it has shut down. Facebook page is still up and doesn't give the impression of anything other than a salon operating as normal at the same location.

Now I have to go through the process of finding another salon again.

Surely it is normal to notify your customers, isn't it. Or am I being old-fashioned?

You are being old fashioned!

BrokenWing · 09/06/2019 17:42

The staff might not have known until the last minute. Or they might not have made the decision until the last minute if they were financially struggling. If they were not sure if they were going to close it would have been risky to tell customers as they might have gone elsewhere and they would lose business.

To put it into perspective, you have lost a hairdresser with little notice, someone might have lost their only income!

How sad. It must have been sudden. I guess you can try and find the stylists - local fb page maybe? - to see if they've moved to another salon or could do with some mobile clients.

WhiteLightTrainWreck · 09/06/2019 17:44

Post a message to the Facebook page asking where the stylists have gone to and follow?

Mine didn't even notify customers with appointments. I arrived on the morning of an important event for me to find a notice pinned to the door. Irritating but not disastrous.

AI once turned up to a restaurant on. Saturday, that I reserved the day before, to find it had closed for good that morning. Really annoying as we had to travel to get there and weren’t able to find a table in any nearby restaurant.

Unfortunately, these days, businesses closing often do so at very short notice, and frequently without even the staff knowing.

You’re being unrealistic to assume that the priority in a situation like this will be people who don’t even have a booking.

Mrsjayy · 09/06/2019 17:46

Obviously something serious happened usually shops say they are closing I don't think you are being old fashioned to have been warned they were closing. Finding a new ha7rdresser is such a struggle Grin

Mrsjayy · 09/06/2019 17:48

Oh me and Dd went to our favourite Mexican reasturant to find it closed they had posted new menus on FB a few days before they just vanished!

Mousetolioness · 09/06/2019 17:51

Oh God, I hope the staff got some warning. They've never been less than lovely when I've had an appointment.

I admit I was just seeing things from my own selfish perspective. It is the timing that makes it a bit stressful in this instance, as the reason I need a cut is so I don't do my Mum a disservice at her funeral. She was a hairdresser in the sixties and never looked anything less than immaculate at all times.

Aww no I am sorry about your mum I am sure you could find a salon just to do your hair for the funeral.

Not quite as bad as your situation but, last year I went to my usual salon and had a cut and colour; few weeks later went back to book next appointment to be told the hairdresser had left the week after my previous appointment only giving the salon owner 4 days notice (told them Tuesday and left on Saturday) the stylist had a full booking schedule going 2-3 weeks ahead too so really left the salon struggling!!
