To ask if this is normal for a baby

Hi all!

Baby girl is 12 weeks old and for the past 4/5 days has been drinking less than she normally does. Normally she drinks 6/7oz but now I’m lucky if she drinks 5! Sometimes she’ll only drink 3. She’s also been sleeping a bit more than usual.

She still seems perfectly happy, smiley and content. She’s still having wet nappies. I did ring my health visitor on Friday and she said it sounds like a growth spurt and not to worry, but that I could bring her up to the clinic tomorrow to get her weighed ect.

Could it be a growth spurt? I thought they only lasted 1/2 days, and this has been going on for 4/5 days now. I’m worried she’s not getting enough, especially with the hot weather we’re having.

Did anyone experience this with their babies at around 12 weeks?

Thanks! Smile Pic just cuz she’s cute!

Oh, I should say that I’ve posted this in parenting too but got no responses, so posting it here for traffic!

Growth spurt and/or heat. So long as she is content and having wet nappies no need at all to worry

powershowerforanhour · 09/06/2019 12:29

That is a very gorgeous baby!

loveskaka · 09/06/2019 12:30

She's gorgeous! Defo sounds like the 4month regression/growth. They do get really tired when this happens. My ds (18m) always lasted about a week with his growth spurts! X

Whatsername7 · 09/06/2019 12:34

Completely normal. She is now at that stage where feeding is boring and she wants to explore. You could try faster flowing teats. Feed her on demand, at her pace. I bf and then moved to ff at 5 months or so but the schedule was the same - my girls fed when they wanted it. Sometimes fed for 45mins/ tanked a 7oz bottle sometimes fed for 5 minutes/snacked on 2oz. Go with your lovely dd.

Thank you all! Glad to hear it’s normal! She’s developing at seemingly breakneck pace too (rolled over AND properly laughed for the first time this week). She has definitely become more aware of the world and wants to constantly be looking around, even during feeds! Grin

😍 your baby is gorgeous! Absolutely normal.

Growth spurts, new developments etc can send them off with their milk.

Mines went through this about 11weeks and again about 14 weeks. Then 16weeks with teething/jags etc (nightmare)

Once again, she is absolutely beautiful!!!! 🥰

CobaltRose96 · 09/06/2019 14:23

Bump!

OP posts:
Divgirl2 · 09/06/2019 14:28

Why are you bumping? Everyone has said it's normal.

CobaltRose96 · 09/06/2019 14:32

And you’ve just bumped it again by commenting.... Hmm

I guess because as a FTM I’m still a little worried. At her last feed just now she only had 2oz. It’s good to get reassurance from more than a couple of people.

RubberTreePlant · 09/06/2019 14:42

Yes, sounds fine. She really is very cute!

Aberforthsgoat · 09/06/2019 14:45

You don’t need to keep bumping op, people have responded and if you’re still worried, go back to the health visitor as nobody can tell you 100% for sure here.
All replies have said it sounds normal - not sure what else you want from the thread?
She’s gorgeous by the way

Elisheva · 09/06/2019 14:47

If you were breastfeeding you wouldn’t even know how much she was drinking. Not having a go at bottle feeding at all, but I think it gives you something extra to worry about. Trust her that she knows how much she wants to eat. She’s clearly thriving.

cakeandchampagne · 09/06/2019 14:55

What a beautiful baby!
Sounds like she is fine- but I don’t think anyone would mind an update photo later. Smile

SeaToSki · 09/06/2019 15:02

Is she down to 2oz at every feed? That is alot less than normal, not just a bit off. Is she pulling at her ears at all, is she fussy, could she be teething?

loveskaka · 09/06/2019 18:21

Babies use a lot of calories feeding, so if she's tired due to a growth spurt she may be too tired to take a whole feed the 1 time, just offer her milk sooner than u would usually. X

loveskaka · 09/06/2019 18:22

People are just a pain in the arse, if she wants to bump then what's the problem? I remember being a first time mum and even when people tell you it's normal u still worry! No one else remember?! X

hookiwooki · 09/06/2019 19:34

@CobaltRose96 Did you try the advice I left on your thread on the 5th of the month? Smaller feeds more frequently etc?

Aberforthsgoat · 11/06/2019 16:32

Yeah sorry op I was being a bit of a dick when I replied. It wasn’t meant horribly but I hope you’re feeling reassured or have got more advice now.

Apologies.
