My mother remembers a trilogy about the potato famine in Ireland. The only thing she can remember is that the last book is called Daniel. Does anyone know the author or trilogy?

Under the hawthorn tree by Marita Conlan McKenna?

SassyBadger · 08/06/2019 20:25

Marita Conlon-McKenna had a famine trilogy. Under the Hawthorn Tree is the only title I can remember.

I loved the Marita Conlon McKenna trilogy! A quick google also reveals a famine trilogy by Charles Egan called the Killing Snows. No Daniel title in that either though.

Oh these were fabulous books! Such fond memories of a favourite teacher reading this to us in class.

Under the hawthorn tree was my first thought too.

I'm sure this is The Lost People trilogy. Checking the author now. I read them when I was a teenager and loved them.

Walter Macken, The Silent People. Definitely this.

SassyBadger · 08/06/2019 21:14

The Silent People! That's the other book I was trying to think of. I could see it in my mind's eye on my brother's bookshelf but the title just wouldn't come to me Smile

She says it’s Under the Hawthorn Tree! Thank you all very much.
