Irregular periods - what’s going on?

Posting for traffic and advice!

I’ve always had really regular periods - 27 day cycle, not a bother. I have twins who are five and no plans for any more.

My periods have gone haywire recently. Cycle is so much shorter and my last period, which was early but quite light, was only two weeks ago. Got to work today and have had to run to shop for supplies as have nothing / wasn’t expecting a period.

AIBU to be concerned? Should I bother my GP or wait and see? I’m otherwise healthy, exercise and maintain a healthy BMI - slim.

I’m 35. Job relatively stressful but coming into a calmer time (teacher, exam classes are finished).

Thanks in advance for any ideas / advice.

It's not unusual for periods to be a bit irregular occasionally. Stress, diet, sleep problems and even holidays and the weather can have an affect. More unusual I think if it carrys on long term and that would be a time to check it out.

You aren't in the general age for perimenopause, where irregular periods and short cycles are very common, but some women do go though it early.

The odd random cycle isn't unusual but it might be worth a chat with your GP if it continues. I had extremely irregular cycles after coming off the pill and I was bleeding for weeks at a time. The only thing they found was that I had low progesterone. Are you upto date with your smear tests? xx
