Have Yodel gone bust? Where’s my (wine) parcel?

Ordered last Thursday from a well known national retailer paying extra for next day delivery on Friday. Via Yodel. Parcel needs to be signed for.

Parcel didn’t arrive. Apparently the van broke down. Ok, these things happen. Assured parcel was out for delivery again on Saturday.

Didn’t come. Contacted Yodel through their seriously clunky webchat service and was assured parcel would definitely come Monday lunchtime.

Guess what? You’re right. Early evening, Yodel tracking says parcel delivered. Not.

Ran around the garden looking under hedges, hopefully, just in case.

Contacted Yodel. Fobbed off. So phoned the retailer later on Monday, who couldn’t seem to get the correct tracking info from Yodel either.

Assurances it would all be fixed. Eventually got updated parcel tracking from Yodel yesterday. Parcel on its way! Asked to bear with, as they deliver until 9pm.

Stayed in again. Nope.

Today. Yodel tracking hasn’t updated. Contacted retailer again (yawn). Retailer told me I shouldn’t have contacted Yodel directly 🤔says give it one more day and once parcel arrives, they’ll consider ‘a gesture of goodwill’. What the actual? Just want the wine!

Yodel tracking now saying parcel at local depot, same basic info as of May 31. So, back to square one. Aarrrgh.

Anyone else experiencing Yodel incompetancy?

Yodel are absolute wank. Whenever I see their name after ordering something I immediately wait for a balls up.

Arselparcel · 05/06/2019 18:00

Glad it’s not just me then.

We're just moving this over to AIBU at the OP's request. Flowers

foreverhanging · 05/06/2019 18:35

Yodel are usually better than Hermes. But today they delivered something to me at about 2ish and I have JUST got an email it's been put in a safe place? How weird is that.

nauseous5000 · 05/06/2019 18:58

This post wouldn't be half as bad if it wasn't a wine parcel! I actually find Hermes ok and Yodel dreadful!

LutherRalph1 · 05/06/2019 19:04

The yodel delivery drivers in my area are thieving arseholes

Dvg · 05/06/2019 19:10

They drank your wine OP. :D

Arselparcel · 05/06/2019 19:13

@Dvg That’s exactly what I was thinking!

I had a shitty Yodel experience last month, which I’m still trying to sort out.... they apparently delivered it, signed for, at about 1pm. Well, no-one was in, but I assumed they had left it in our safe place porch. Got home, no package.

About 7pm, someone from 3 streets away came to the door. They’d come home, to find a sodden parcel, dumped in their garden. It was damaged from the rain, and I’m still trying to get a refund. It was furniture, and was obvious not to leave in the rain.

I hate Yodel.

Arselparcel · 05/06/2019 19:18

Never had a problem with Hermes here in three years.
I know our Hermes delivery driver and she’s ace.

But Yodel, however .....

Yodel insist my work address doesn’t exist every single time a parcel is ordered with them. I have had to have a lengthy argument via online chat for days in which they insist it doesn’t, they finally agree to update the information and then don’t send it out again. It took me nearly 2 weeks to get a box of coffee cups once that were Amazon Prime next day. The seller also has no joy. No other delivery company has this problem, we’re in central bloody London!

Arselparcel · 05/06/2019 19:25

@HollaHolla

I fully expected the same, but when I webchatted Yodel when the parcel was supposedly delivered, which is a grim experience in itself, at least they eventually admitted the non delivery was a ‘driver scan error’.

It’s all these excuses that makes me think the company is going down the pan.

the van broke down. = driver incapacitated after guzzling a case of wine.

Nemesia · 05/06/2019 19:28

I just got a text and email to say my shoes had been delivered. They were actually delivered last week 😆

Arselparcel · 05/06/2019 19:29

@Jammy

It’s totally bonkers, isn’t it? Seriously think Yodel is on the way out. Hopefully.

Ha! I actually said that today to the retailer. They said tut, tut, madam, of course not. Think we’re right though!

gowgow · 05/06/2019 19:39

It's the retailer's responsibility to get the parcel to you. Contact them about problems, not the carrier.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 05/06/2019 19:44

It’s all these excuses that makes me think the company is going down the pan.

I don't think it's necessarily a sign of impending insolvency, the issue is that this is their business model. Everyone wants things delivered free, retailers don't want to have to absorb high delivery costs so they turn to companies like Yodel who promise to deliver cheaply. In order to do that, however, they give their drivers delivery schedules that are (IMO) ridiculously tight, hence drivers delivering to any old address, wanging packages into hedges or leaving parcels in the nearest location (even if it is in the pissing rain) and cutting any corner possible so that they can make their allotted number of deliveries.

The worst of it is that it's the customer that bears the brunt, even though they rarely have any say in the company delivering (or not, if it's Yodel) their parcel.

MrFlibblesEyes · 05/06/2019 19:44

Ordered a wardrobe from argos that was supposed to be delivered by yodel. We never received it! After about £40 worth of phone calls back and forth it was eventually found the driver had basically stolen it and never returned to the company! We got the money back for the wardrobe in the end but nothing for the inconvenience or expense we incurred trying to find out what happened!

SurferRona · 05/06/2019 19:45

I just switched from ££££BT to talktalk for broadband. Apparently Yodel are their courier of choice....God knows why Hmm cheap but they have already missed the expected dispatch date for my new router. Confused

Arselparcel · 05/06/2019 19:49

@gowgow

Please read my OP. I know the legals. I contacted the retailer on Monday and again today.

Yodel are the worst, most incompetent "computer says no" bunch of moronic C*NTS I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. The local driver never arrives, my local depot is 70+ miles away, I've literally never had a parcel experience with them that didn't leave me clawing my own eyes out in frustration.
Last time:
Order from Mothercare turned into a multiday waitathon. Days off work, no help on social media, even reaching out to their CEO team for escalation didn't get any help.. a month later I just got a template sorry email. My parcel ended up back at Mothercare returned!

I cancel any online order if I can when I see the Yodel name is the courier service. I cannot deal with the stress any more.

And if the Yodel social media team are reading this, you are in the group I'm calling a bunch of useless c*nts too.

MumsyJ · 05/06/2019 20:30

Yodel has always been shit. Had refunds as a result of their inefficiencies, and thieving behaviour. I don't like them at all.
