To be playing this late on a Friday night (NDN)

On a Friday night we like to play a game of pool, we make a small bet between ourselves and have a few drinks, quiet music.

We stopped last night about 12am.

This morning the neighbour asked us to stop earlier as it disturbs his sleep, fair enough, although it is only on a Friday night. Awbu to play this late?

Yes yabu

Moneybegreen · 01/06/2019 15:41

What kind of noise are you making?

TinselAndKnickers · 01/06/2019 15:42

Compromise - music off at 10:30-11ish and wind down from there

EvaHarknessRose · 01/06/2019 15:47

Windows and doors closed, music down and no raucous laughter from 11 I'd say. Half 11 maybe.

Lovethetimeyouhave · 01/06/2019 15:51

It's just the sound of the balls putting into the holes, we're otherwise quiet! Seems a shame to have to stop the one night we look forward to all week

I would put music off earlier. Are you in a flat or semi detached?

Lovethetimeyouhave · 01/06/2019 15:54

We are fully attached, neughbour either side

TopBitchoftheWitches · 01/06/2019 15:55

Reverse Hmm

Lovethetimeyouhave · 01/06/2019 15:57

Why is it a reverse?

TopBitchoftheWitches · 01/06/2019 16:02

You tell me op.

But it is obvious from the way you have worded your posts.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/06/2019 16:03

play a game of pool, we make a small bet between ourselves and have a few drinks, quiet music.

Realistically that is never going to add up to "just the sound of the balls in the pockets".

I suspect you don't realise how much louder you really are - cheering or laughing at shots, general drink fuelled merriment, someone likes a song so turns it up, insta-karaoke starts etc. I'm not saying that in itself is U, but I do think you are significantly noisier than you think. Clearly your neighbour knows exactly what you are up to, after all.

Lovethetimeyouhave · 01/06/2019 16:07

Ah you may be right, we are generally quiet though and dont get drunk as we have a young son, so just a few beers, we turn the bass off of the speaker too and the words "nice shot" are frequent, no screaming haha. Ok, will definitely turn it down for 11/11:30, seems more reasonable!

Also no idea how this reads as a reverse, but just looking for other perspectives

If you live in a terrace house you need to consider the impact of your actions on the neighbours. Every Friday until midnight will soon piss off neighbours who don’t want to be kept awake by music and pool

Isatis · 01/06/2019 16:08

It's just the sound of the balls putting into the holes, we're otherwise quiet!

You play in total silence, without talking to each other? Why would you look forward to that all week?

Lovethetimeyouhave · 01/06/2019 16:10

@Isatis because the loser cooks all week and the other doesn't 🤣 there is small chat, but mostly it's full concentration Haha, sound like a right bore

ILoveMaxiBondi · 01/06/2019 16:13

Can you put a cloth in each pocket to cushion the sound of the balls going in?

AdaShelby · 01/06/2019 16:14

You don't need to stop it just end it earlier. It's selfish otherwise.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 01/06/2019 16:15

I’m imagining a very subdued evening with two people silently watching each other pot balls and giving a thumbs up and commenting “nice shot” every time. Grin sounds a hoot and a half!

Lovethetimeyouhave · 01/06/2019 16:16

@ilovemaxi ah you reminded me, we put rubber into them in the flat but that's worn away, will replace them!

Just thought, is it one of those tables where the balls all collect centrally underneath then roll out to one single pickup point (versus the trad snooker style actual pockets)

That knock-bump-rolling noise can really grate (drive you demented) after a while. If you happen to have hard flooring it might be even worse.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 01/06/2019 16:17

You probably don't realise how noisy you are. My neighbours make a racket but think they make no noise at all.

I'd wind it down earlier like you said

ILoveMaxiBondi · 01/06/2019 16:21

If it is one of these I would block the track with cloths and just lift each ball out when it goes in and set aside in a tray or something.

UnicornDust9 · 01/06/2019 16:21

I think your NDN is over the top.

Carry on playing.

Peperpiperpickedwrong · 01/06/2019 16:48

It will be the clunk of the balls and then them rattling into the pockets & out again.
DM had a pub, the general chit chat and duke box couldn’t really be heard in the upstairs accommodation but the potting of balls was impossible to ignore.
