to vape whilst breastfeeding?

I've given up smoking. I am pretty proud of myself. Went cold turkey whilst ttc and never looked back. My son is 7 months old and I'm breastfeeding. I love breastfeeding and don't want to stop.

I've been extremely stressed recently and am craving cigarettes. I won't touch them but am considering vaping (this helped me to stop).

I have no idea whether you can vape and breastfeed. If you can't, I absolutely won't. Does anyone know or have any experience? Would my doctor be able to say either way?

It’s a real backwards step given that you’ve been off fags/vape for a while. Can you do something more positive to bust stress instead?

@TestingTestingWonTooFree I know, I keep telling myself this. I've just left my abusive ex partner, I'm on my own with my son who is incredible but hard work. I'm so anxious and I just feel it would help.

Coincidentally new guidelines from the Royal College of Midwives issued today says "E-cigarettes contain some toxins, but at far lower levels than found in tobacco smoke. If a pregnant woman who has been smoking chooses to use an e-cigarette (vaping) and it helps her to quit smoking and stay smokefree, she should be supported to do so.
Based on the available evidence on e-cigarette safety, there is no reason to believe that use of an e-cigarette has any adverse effect on breastfeeding.
Vaping should continue if it is helpful to quitting smoking and staying smokefree."

I think you’ve done so amazingly well to give up, it would be a shame to associate vaping/smoking with stress relief again. Yes, Vaping is better than smoking, but not doing either is even better.

Is there anything else you can think of that will relax you?

If you do it, make sure you do it outside (properly outside, not just huddled in the doorway), change clothes and wash/brush teeth before going near your baby.
