To think people know each other on here?

I'm just curious because I see a lot of people say they are name changing for certain posts and I don't really understand why? Is it because regulars on here know each other well? I have only been on here a few months and still feeling like a bit of a newbie. Do you remember each other's circumstances and is this why people feel they need to name change?

It's usually because a post is potentially identifying to someone who does know them in real life, and they don't want that someone to be able to find their other posts by searching their username.

To clarify more, if I were to post about a particularly unusual event at work, then it's possible/likely that a co-worker who also posts on here would recognise the situation and realise who I was. If I had then posted elsewhere something personal that I was keeping private from my co-workers, a search of my username would reveal that information.

People would know if I posted certain things under my usual username 🤷‍♀️

I've gone viral apparently with the Rocketman fanjo thing so I was a bit concerned people might figure out who I am from my other posts but I've not said anything too identifying yet but if I wanted to I would nc because my privacy is very important to me.

Yes, some know each other and are vicious about people's previous posts on another forum, so I name change to avoid being searched and discussed.

I no a few people who use Mn so I name change for privacy.

I have a couple which I ONLY comment on certain topics so nothing can be traced back to me.

I name change regularly because I know a few people on here.
