To ask for help to work out new high-tech TV? 😂

Looking after a neighbour’s house while they’re away and trying to work out how the TV works Grin

It’s an LG TV with 3 remotes:

  • One to work the TV
  • One for Now TV
  • One that doesn’t seem to be for anything in particular (see pic of non-LG one - I can’t work out what it’s for exactly).

The neighbour had explained each remote to me and how to switch on the TV before going away buuut the TV’s not working very well and I don’t really want to bother them so please could I ask you lovely lot to help me?

When I switch on the TV with the LG remote, it comes on but says ‘no signal’ on the screen.

The Now TV remote works fine but I can’t work out how to use the TV with the other 2 remotes.

I think I have to change the HMDI on the main TV but I’ve tried that and it’s still not working :/

Thanks in advance for your help!

The one on the left is for a Virgin box

doingasurvey · 29/05/2019 22:22

Do they have a Virgin Tivo box. You have to point the Virgin one to the TiVo box and press power button, this should then give a tv signal to the tv

Temporaryanonymity · 29/05/2019 22:23

Turn on the virgin box with the controller on the left. Then press the source button with the middle controller to get the telly.

mateysmum · 29/05/2019 22:23

The tv is probably setup to default to the Virgin box, so you will need to have the Virgin box switched on and make sure the tv is on the matching source. usually it will be an hdmi channel.

LGAargh · 29/05/2019 22:27

Thanks doing! I can’t see a Virgin box anywhere, just an Apple TV box behind the TV. I’ve tried to point the Virgin remote at the Apple TV but (perhaps understandably 😂) it hasn’t worked yet.

Try the blue button on the remote on the middle picture. The one above the 4 arrow buttons. I think it says smart but cant make it out, it has a picture that looks like a house. That should bring up a menu for you to select the source from so either the virgin box (make sure it is switched on) or use the arrow keys to go to the preloaded apps like netflix etc. I am assuming all of this as that is how my samsung smart tv works.

LGAargh · 29/05/2019 22:35

Thanks you’re right Rainbow - the blue Home button opened up a list of apps. I still can’t work out how to get the normal TV guide - just the list of channels and shows - up and running or how to get the right HDMI connection to get signal.

This message keeps on coming up on the TV screen when I try to change the HDMI and get the TV to work.

Hi OP, I’m sure you already have checked, but is the Virgin box in the cabinet?

Villanellesproudmum · 29/05/2019 22:43

I have the TV remote, have you pressed input to connect to the HDMI or the other options using the same button until it works.

rainbowunicorn · 29/05/2019 22:43

Happy to help. I have sky and on mine I have to use the arrow keys to the app that says sky so think that there should be one on yours that says virgin or similar. If you can find that then press the OK button in the middle of the 4 arrow buttons it should then load the Virgin tv guide. Once you are on that you would use the virgin remote in the first picture to navigate and choose what you want to watch. again just assuming all this based on how mine is set up for sky so may be totally wrong here.

LGAargh · 29/05/2019 22:56

I’ve now tried all of the options - antenna, HDMI 1, HDMI 2 and HDMI 3 - on the LG TV and it keeps on saying ‘no signal for the current input device’. Do you have any suggestions on what I could do now?

Did you try turning on the virgin box? Looks to me like the virgin box is under the tv on the right of the picture (and the NowTV box on the left). If the Virgin box is still off you will get that message.

RebootYourEngine · 30/05/2019 04:40

Are you trying to watch Freeview TV? Maybe they dont have an aerial. You say now TV is working. Can't you just watch that?

Soontobe60 · 30/05/2019 04:48

Are you me in disguise? I spend one day a week at my DDs house looking after my DGS, and EVERY BLOODY WEEK I forget how to use her tv! She thinks I'm losing my memory whereas I'm just confused with which buttons to press on which remote. I usually end up watching whatever channel they were watching the night before 🤣
Our TVs at home have 3 remotes, one for the TV, one for the Virgin box and one for the sound bar. We only need to use the Virgin remote and to switch it on press and hold down the green ON button, top left, then once the TVs switches on, press it again to switch the Virgin box on.

peanutbear · 30/05/2019 07:14

The virgin box is on the right of the picture under the tv. And it's on standby.

Press the red light on this and wait, you will then have tv.

The screen in your photo is the holding screen for virgin and it means your box is in standby

Villanellesproudmum · 30/05/2019 08:07

You need the box on first so it’s got a green light, then do the input thing by trying the different options.

LGAargh · 30/05/2019 22:04

Ahhh thanks guys!!!! You’re legends! It worked! :)

I feel so stupid Blush I’ve only ever had very basic TVs so I’m not used to smart TVs with 5 billion remotes to turn everything on 😂

Happy days ! I’m the same in other places though.
