Potty training and so I’m sure it could be excitement or novelty- but my 2 year old has had a week 19 times since 8:30am! It seems an extremely amount to me and I’ve never really noticed before as when changing a nappy you don’t know if it’s 1 wee or 3 in there!

Is it normal to go this many times when first training?

19 times seems like a lot! Were they all in the potty or in the pants?

When we first started potty training she went about 7 times those first few days. Shes been potty trained about 4 months now and goes about 4 times a day (aged 2yr 2mo)

12 have been in the potty (first 2 were dribbles but the other 10 have been proper amounts of wee!).

Probably the novelty or the reward, but if your child is urinating excessively (particularly if drinking more than normal), it might be worth speaking to your GP about type one diabetes.

Dropitlikeitshot · 29/05/2019 19:01

DC did one every time they saw the potty at first, so I had to put it out sight and they learnt to tell me when they needed to go.
It’s all about the hugs and praise for them at first. Smile

@worriedaboutmygirl thanks, I will check with the GP next week if it continues but he doesn’t have any other symptoms. He does drink quite a lot but has normal weight gain and bundles of energy.

My first went twice a day! Couldn't be convinced to go more and still never wees more than twice a day usually twice. Bladder of steel. My youngest went about 10 times a day at first. Although we did briefly brib both for wees on the potty and for that short period they both suddenly needed to go about 50 times a day.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 29/05/2019 19:10

I’m going to try moving the potty into the bathroom tomorrow rather than the living room floor in the hope the novelty wears off. I don’t want to make it difficult for him to go himself, but I think he is going for the sake of it at the minute.

3 times, maybe 4. Unless it's bedtime, when he can squeeze 16 wees and eleventyhundred poos out Hmm.

On the other hand my other half has a recently trained daughter who wees a ridiculous amount. On the motorway and she's bored? WEEWEEEEEEEE. Middle of the shop and she's bored? WEEWEEEEEEEE. Basically, if she is bored. She screams til someone takes her. So she could go 4/5 times a day. Or 20. If she dislikes the activity at hand!

My DS was so excited by the potty he used to do a mini wee in it every 20 minutes. He soon calmed down and went a normal amount.

goose1964 · 29/05/2019 20:51

My grandson wees about once or twice an hour, he drinks a lot. I'd be surprised if he's diabetic as he is so lively he's probably making himself thirsty. We're starting to potty train, on Friday he sat on his potty, watching Paw Patrol for half an hour, zilch then got off his potty and weed on the carpet, followed by another 10 minutes later.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 29/05/2019 20:55

@goose1964 yes that’s exactly what happened when I tried DS a few months ago so we put it off a while longer as he wasn’t happy at sitting on the potty.

This time he had 4 accidents in the first hour and then seemed to realise when he was about to wee and has made it to the potty the rest of the day.

Today, twice between 7am-7pm. He is not excited about potty training, not at all :( He managed to hold it in between 7am-2pm. We seem to have opposite problems!
