Hi all. Wondered what you would do here. I am menopausal so sometimes a bit irrational. On Friday I went in to a chain cheap food shop and ordered a salad. Only 1.90. It was breakfast time lots people waiting so told had to wait a bit. I paid with a 5.00 note and said I would pop to a shop next door and come back. Got back and told I never paid for the salad. I know I did as I only had a 5.00 note on me and only had a bit change left as I spent 2.00 in shop next door. Girl was adamant that i never. she called the manager. Both speaking in eastern European so I could not understand anything. they insisted they count all money in till to check. I had to wait 15 mins. They said the till balanced and I was lying. They could tell anyway what change was in till. I said it would balance if I had paid wldnt it. I left the shop and said would ring head office. I left a message with HO as no answer. About 3 hour later I get a call from manager at shop who counted money to say they had rechecked the till and print outs and I had paid . Go in and get money back. No sorry really. I was so cross. it is a busy shop right by my work and a few people from work was in there. I think I should get at least 5.00 back as goodwill. I had to buy lunch again and all hassle. I am not sure if to pursue further with HO or just go in get the money back and stick it in a charity box. it's not the money really just the principle and rudeness of staff. As I said I am easy wound up with the . menopause.

cushioncovers · 26/05/2019 09:07

God what a faff.
Did they offer you a receipt?

Surely their till would of easily shown a salad on its recent transactions?

Belledan1 · 26/05/2019 09:12

No didn't get a receipt. When I got to work I literally tipped my bag out check no 5.00 or receipt there in case it was me. I said this to them check the till roll but they wldnt. I actually not got it back yet Arawia and perhaps I shld move on but it's the principle. what if that was last bit of money.

They sound dreadful, especially with no apology. Definitely complain more and tell all your colleagues so they know not to go there.

catchyjem · 26/05/2019 09:13

If the shop was busy I can understand why the staff did not remember you if you left and then came back.

Belledan1 · 26/05/2019 09:17

It was literally 5 mins. Most people having breakfast baguette things. Suppose we all make mistakes but it was the attitude and speaking to each other so I could not understand that got me cross. I think I might just get the money Tuesday.

what if that was last bit of money.

If it was, I doubt you’d be spending your last pennies ordering a salad. It sounds like it was a faff, but it was resolved. I don’t think it’s worth any kind of fuss over a bit of change you evidently could afford to spend.

CruellaFeinberg · 26/05/2019 09:22

Why should you get £5 back if you spent £1.90?

CruellaFeinberg · 26/05/2019 09:23

**which you got back anyway??

bridgetreilly · 26/05/2019 09:26

I don't understand why you didn't just get your change when you paid. That's what normally happens, and then no one has to try and remember which customers have paid, which have overpaid, and which haven't paid.

But no, I don't think they owe you anything. If they wanted you still to be a customer, then I guess they might have offered you a voucher for a free salad or something. But they don't have to. Just vote with your feet.

ScreamingValenta · 26/05/2019 09:28

It's rubbish service, but I think you should reclaim your £1.90 and then vote with your feet.

Belledan1 · 26/05/2019 09:35

Sorry I did get my change back when I initially paid. then went shop next door and when I came back to get salad they said u had not paid. Suppose I thought it would be good customer service to offer me a bit extra. Yes i think i willmove on. just collect my 1.90 on Tuesday and not go there again. I normally take my own lunch.

Sounds inconvenient and irritating. They made a mistake when they were busy and didn't deal with it as well as they could have. I think not giving them your future custom is enough though - I dong know what "further" you envisage but I don't think the time, effort or emotion is proportional to what happened. You were potentially £3.10 out of pocket, but got it back.

Dippypippy1980 · 26/05/2019 09:46

They should have apologies and through in a voucher or something as a jester if goodwill.

THeir customer service isn’t great - mistakes happen but it should been handled better.

If you go in again insist on being given a receipt for everything you buy

Scrapbookqueen1 · 26/05/2019 09:50

Extremely poor customer service. To say that there should have been an apology is an understatement. Write some online reviews about the place.
