I’m new to the world of art. Never believed it was for ‘people like me’ until last year when I started to do some basic, free courses on art history and watched some interesting documents presented by Waldemar januszczak (which I highly recommend)

I thought that MN with its combined cultural wealth could perhaps give me some recommendations of what to look at/learn about next?

I’m considering doing an evening course at my local college on Art History later on in the year as I find ist such a fascinating subject of which I have only just scratched the surface!

I studied history of art at uni, it is the most interesting subject as it is so varied both in time periods and style. I collect art by female artists, and find it a really interesting niche (although it shouldn't be) in terms of study. I really recommend 'seeing ourselves: women's self portraits' by Frances Borzello. Covers a huge range of eras and gives deeper insight into the significant female artists who are sadly more often than not overlooked. John Bergers ways of seeing is considered pretty essential reading. I eagerly awaiting Kate Bryant's book on famous artist couples.

There's also a lot of great art content on Instagram, artgirlsrising and thegreatwomen artists have been hugely informative to me and showed me artists I'd never heard of and I've studied HoA for almost 10 years.
