To often give kids unusual meals they ask for?

Its not that if they ask for sweets for dinner they'll get it or anything like that.

My DC ask for random meals and I often give them to keep them quiet. They aren't all completely crazy foods. They ask for and enjoy the following-

Cheese and jam sandwiches (yes together).
Sausages, gravy, stuffing & Yorkshire pudding.
Toast and cucmber.
Pasta with cheese and marmite (this isn't that weird)
Honey pepper chicken (this is delicious - I guess they've eaten it somewhere else)
Cheesey mash as a meal (I actually give them fish pie but they don't realise)
Rice with mint sauce (otherwise just plain rice)

Puddings-
Strawberries and dry shreddies.
Banana "icecream" with frozen grapes.
Greek yogurt with a spoon of milkshake/ hot chocolate powder stirred in (this is a new one)
Coconut biscuit dipped in strawberry mousse.

None of those sound particularly crazy tbh.

MrsMaow · 24/05/2019 22:05

Now I want sausages, gravy, stuffing and Yorkshire puddings for dinner tomorrow.

I might have mash with it though

moreismore · 24/05/2019 22:05

I bloody love cheese and jam sandwiches.

Aquamarine1029 · 24/05/2019 22:05

Sounds fine to me.

CripsSandwiches · 24/05/2019 22:06

None of those are that weird I'd be fine giving the kids that.

UhOhSpagettiOs · 24/05/2019 22:07

Meh, as long as it's balanced then who cares! I've eaten choc ice and chips on the same plate as a kid. Anything for a quiet life!

Poundlandkate · 24/05/2019 22:07

I also love a cheese and ham sandwich, poor man's brie and cranberry.

drspouse · 24/05/2019 22:07

My DS likes peanut butter and Marmite together.

fitzbilly · 24/05/2019 22:07

None of those sound unusual?

Alwaysawomantome · 24/05/2019 22:10

I asked my son what he wanted for dinner this morning. He had been so good and I told him he could have whatever he wanted (within reason) and he said fish fingers with beans on toast. That's exactly what he got.

AdaColeman · 24/05/2019 22:16

I don't think any of those combinations are especially weird. The sausages & Yorkshire pudding is deconstructed toad in the hole, and the biscuit dunked in mousse is quite a normal pudding.

I think it's a good thing that they are coming up with ideas of their own about combinations of flavours and textures, it shows that they are interested and not afraid to try new things.

Have they tried things like tempura vegetables, or gyoza in broth, I bet they would enjoy them.

When my daughter was little she loved sandwiches that where white bread cheese ham and ham-she’d eat it so I gave it to her
My fella eats fish finger sandwiches-I’d rather eat my own toenails than have that lol xxx

PiratePetespajamas · 24/05/2019 22:38

Mine eat eggs with strawberry jam every morning. Makes me want to boak looking at it but they love it and they’re eating eggs for breakfast so who am i to intervene!

Hadenoughofitall441 · 24/05/2019 22:40

My boy loves breadsticks and bbq sauce as a snack 😊

kateandme · 25/05/2019 10:13

i think its great! they will soon get into peer led foods and meals etc.let their taste buds be experiemental with all flavours for a while.
as long as they wont NOT eat other foods then its fine.

Chocolate35 · 25/05/2019 10:19

I want to eat at yours 🤣 Good for you. As long as they’re eating it, who cares if it’s weird?
