I'm pregnant and bleeding!

user920 · 19/05/2019 22:35

Not sure if this is normal...
I'm 8 weeks pregnant and after sex have noticed that I'm bleeding. Had it 1-2 weeks ago where it was light pink (more like spotting) but this time it's bright red and quite a lot of it, looks like how a lighter period would look.

Should I be worried? I'm freaking out quite a lot!

Have you considered calling NHS Direct instead of wasting time waiting for an answer here from some wannabe medical professional?

Catmum26 · 19/05/2019 22:39

how long ago did you have sex? it could just be you were a bit rough and have irritated your cervix. the only thing you can do is wait to see if it dies down. how much blood is there? at this early stage there isn’t really anything you can do but wait it out to see what happens. i know easier said than done but try not to worry.

user920 · 19/05/2019 22:40

@ShitAtScarbble don't have NHS direct where I am, it would be an out of hours doctor or wait until the morning!!!!

@Catmum26 20 mins ish, I noticed within a minute after. Seems like quite a bit of blood, would constitute as a light period to me!

I would call out of hours and ask for advice. I had this at 6 weeks pregnant and it turned out to be nothing. They gave me a scan to make sure everything was okay. Hope all is okay Flowers

rabbitheadlights · 19/05/2019 22:41

It's quite possible that everything is OK OP, equally not Flowers you really need professional medical advice this is what walk in centre, urgent care centres are for xx

Catmum26 · 19/05/2019 22:46

okay so it’s happened quite soon after sex which to me would suggest the sex has caused it. i would have thought you have just irritated your cervix as it has a lot of blood flow whilst pregnant and even the smallest force can cause bleeding. i hope this reassures you somewhat until you can speak to a medical professional tomorrow.

sheshootssheimplores · 19/05/2019 22:48

Oh bless you OP. I certainly have bled after sex when pregnant. It did sort itself out by the morning though.

greyby25 · 19/05/2019 22:49

I had exactly this at 6 weeks. I had light spotting immediately after sex, went for a wee and had tons more, I called NHS 111 number I think it is ? I'm not 100% on that and they advised me to go to A&E. I went to A&E, the bleeding had stopped at that point ( I also passed clots and it was bright red ) and they checked my cervix and took my bloods for HCG levels, and booked me for an early scan. Two days later I had a heavier bleed, I rang the early pregnancy triage number they gave me and they told me to go back to A&E should it get heavier and it didn't so I just had to wait until my early scan. We saw a baby and a heartbeat. We went for our 13 week scan and I was sure something would be wrong but we found out we were expecting identical twins and there was no cause for the bleed. My midwife said anything from brown to bright red, clots or no clots, cramps or no cramps is not normal but it is common and that any bleeding in early pregnancy or at any point in pregnancy should be checked by a professional. Try not to fear the worst and stay positive ! X

Fiveredbricks · 19/05/2019 22:49

Pretty sure you would have a MAU there though OP? Call them or your midwife.

Dontbeadick · 19/05/2019 23:00

I feel for you OP. This was me a few months ago. I was told that it was 50/50, but I remember just being desperate to know one way or the other. Contact your GP tomorrow and see if they can refer you to the early pregnancy unit for a scan. I tied myself in knots for days and thankfully it all turned out fine for me. Hope it does for you too.

brummiesue · 19/05/2019 23:06

I work in early pregnancy, you dont need to attend as an emergency with that amount of bleeding, they won't do anything overnight. Call your GP or early pregnancy unit first thing tomorrow to get a scan appointment. Try not to worry, it doesn't sound heavy at present.

LucyAutumn · 19/05/2019 23:26

What above poster said, or your midwife/ emergency midwife number if you have one as they'll be able to arrange a reassurance scan. Hope everything's ok Flowers

user920 · 20/05/2019 07:02

Still bleeding (lighter though) this morning, contacting GP as soon as they open to get an urgent appointment.

If they do send for a scan, how long should I expect to wait (if anyone's experienced it?) Same day, a week, or is it just dependent on how serious the symptoms are?

BabySoupDragon · 20/05/2019 07:06

I didn’t bleed but I just rang the EPU at the hospital due to issues with a previous pregnancy and they got me booked in the next day. I hope all is ok for you.

Dontbeadick · 20/05/2019 07:08

I think I had to wait a day. It certainly wasn't a week. I would have gone mad!

LucyAutumn · 20/05/2019 18:10

I recently had a bleed, I was given a scan firs thing the next morning.

outsho · 20/05/2019 18:21

Can be normal after sex, your cervix is more sensitive during pregnancy.

Contact out of hours and try to get a scan, it’s all you can really do. Pregnancy is such a worrying time, especially the first trimester. Hope all is ok Flowers.

Burnybits12 · 20/05/2019 18:24

I had spotting with both at 5-9 weeks and had a scan at the early pregnancy unit. Good luck x

Mrs173 · 30/05/2020 12:29

@user920 not sure if you are still on here but would love to know how you got on. This is happening to me right now. I had a miscarriage in Feb this year and am terrified it’s happening again 😭

erenaae · 03/08/2020 16:28

FTM I’m new here and don’t know how to make a post yet and hoping someone will see this. I’ve been having pink to red discharge since last night, every time I wipe, or swap to see if it’s progressing. It’s not clotting or dark, but definitely redder than I expected any pregnancy discharge to be. I’m 12 weeks 2 days and haven’t had a 12 weeks scan yet due to COVID implications. I’ve had very light cramping, but I’ve had that all my pregnancy so far. I didn’t know you spotted during pregnancy and I don’t know if this is too much blood to just be spotting

Mrs173 · 04/08/2020 12:34

Hi @erenaae I have just seeen this. My Comment was the one above yours and I had quite a lot of bleeding 3 times in my pregnancy so far - it was quite a lot of bright red blood the first time (soaked a pad or 2!) and darker the other 2 times. I am 17 weeks 2 days now and so far everything is going well. I can’t comment on what’s happening to you but hopefully you can call your EPU and get in for a scan? I chose to pay for private scans as I wanted to know and my EPU wouldn’t scan me. Good luck and keep us posted xx

Goldenwonder112 · 07/01/2021 15:03

Hi @erenaae

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and having the same issue you did. Were you able to get to the bottom of it?

Hope you are well

Dhano21 · 07/02/2021 11:53

I am 4.5 weeks pregnant and when i wiped down there i saw 2 tiny spots of blood in the discharge. I get the occasional mild cramps

I have had a previous miscarriage at 6 weeks and a termination of pregnancy due to fetal abnormalities .
