To come off Sertraline due to 6 weeks of extreme fatigue

I was put on Sertraline 50mg to help me with extreme PMT, 7 weeks ago.

I have been extremely tired since I went on them and after having a full blood test done (and it turning out that nothing untoward is going on) I feel the only thing left to do is to come off Sertraline. (Shame because I was loving having an anxiety free time of it)

I also lost my libido entirely so I don't feel like I’m having a full life.

The Drs said I can just come straight off it.

I’ve organised some counselling instead.

Has anyone else had this experience with sertraline?

Thank you

I think I am also more tired on Sertraline, but I have quite severe depression so need to take it. I'm on 200mg at the moment and I do think I am a lot more sluggish/tired on it. Don't seem to have a problem with libido though.

Have they offered anything else?

Horrible stuff. I nearly ended up on performance management after 2 month of it. I was a proper space cadet. Threw it in the bin and was back to normal within a week.

Merryoldgoat · 13/05/2019 16:15

I’ve found it life changing. I’ve had some headaches which is shitty but I can bear it if I’m not crying every day.

Has the doctor not offered an alternative?

TheInebriati · 13/05/2019 16:19

I didn't get good results with Sertraline and had to try a couple of other anti-depressents before I found the right one for me.

Watching with interest - I just started them (on day 5) and today just can't seem to keep my eyes open! Would it have that effect that quickly though - I assumed just a 'Monday' thing!

The sleepiness does wear off eventually, its only after that you'll find out if they work for you or not.

Not Sertraline but I am having the same issue currently with Fluoxetine (Prosac). Have also been taking it for about six weeks and it’s been really positive in that it has really lifted my mood and I do feel happier and calmer BUT I am sooo tired. I feel I am not sleeping as deeply as usual and waking up in the early hours. I keep yawning all day....

WatsKiskers · 13/05/2019 16:43

I had the same on Sertraline (and was prescribed it for the same reason as you) lome pp i got into trouble at work for being a total zombie. I am now trying fluoxetine and so far so good one month in.

OneStepSideways · 13/05/2019 16:49

No, I didn't get any lasting tiredness even on the max dose of 200mg. If anything I was a bit hyper. The only time I felt tired was initially after increasing the dose and only for a month or two while my body adjusted.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 13/05/2019 16:55

I came off Sertraline at the exact time period, I really wasn't getting on with it at all. I felt awful.

I came straight off it and after a week or two felt back to myself.

I was on it for anxiety, did CBT and counselling and refused to take any more pills after my experience of Sertraline.

olivesnutsandcheese · 13/05/2019 17:45

I was on 50mg, please come off it carefully. I had some v weird side effects. I would definitely take half a tablet for at least two weeks and then alternate one day on and a day off for another week before stopping.
It did help me but felt very numb and disinterested on it. Very tired to start with

MsFrosty · 13/05/2019 17:51

I had severe headaches for 6 weeks and struggled with tiredness. But these eased after that. Libido totally went but has returned 3 months later
My PMT symptoms are massively improved so I think it's weighing up the pros and cons

DefConOne · 13/05/2019 17:54

I had the same but with awful nausea. It felt like early pregnancy, I was on them for anxiety. My inability to cope with life due to tiredness actually made my anxiety worse. I’m the same with all i
