I have been looking through job adverts recently and I keep coming across adverts that state the pay as NMW and then go on to list in the Essential Criteria things such as 2 years experience/NVQ Level 3 etc.

Surely if the job role calls for someone who has more than 6 months experience and who has studied for a specific qualification higher than GCSE's, then it commands a higher rate of pay?

My issue is lack of recent experience so I am looking and fully expecting to get a role that is low paid, but after 2 years I would hope I would be making more than NMW.

AIBU? Do you think they actually get someone who has the specified criteria?

Ughh this really annoys me too, I see so many job adverts that are advertised as entry level but then say you need at least 1-2 years experience...well then it's not entry level is it?! And the pay reflects the entry level position...no wonder these roles are re-advertised so often Hmm Hmm YADNBU!!

Surely if the job role calls for someone who has more than 6 months experience and who has studied for a specific qualification higher than GCSE's, then it commands a higher rate of pay? It commands the rate of pay that they need to pay in order to get someone to fill the job. And when so many jobs are "20 hours (or less) NMW", then full time is such an advantage that they may not need to pay more than NMW.
