OK so feeling a bit ranty and hormonal (I'm 28 weeks pregnant) so I probably am but here goes....

Today we had a catalogue kindly put through our door to join all the other junk mail. The difference with this is that they were kind enough to put a note wiuth it requesting that if I'm not interested I should leave it on my doorstep tomorrow so they can collect it.

Am I unreasonable that this really gets on my wick? If you put crp through my letterbox please don't expect me to leave it out for you just so you can give it to some other poor bstard plus advertise to all the local burglars that my house is empty!!!!! It is in the bin but if I am being unreasonable I will take it out and put it on my doorstep while eating humble pie.....

After reading this thread, I will put the Kleenez out with a no thanks note.

But I have to say I do find it intensely annoying to be cold-called or to have people knocking on my door. Particularly as I have a non-sleeping ds who wakes if I even breathe on him.

He wakes even if someone tries to put a takeaway flyer through the door. And why should I have to fend off marketeers when I am cooking dinner or trying to corrall my dcs into bed.

We are on mailing and phone preferences to ensure we don't get junk. I don't see why avons and kleenez should not abide by these preferences. I always get the name and company of coldcallers to tell them they have violated my phone preference and I will be reporting them.

Rant over.

We had a kleenez catalogue put through the door when we were on holiday. When we came home there was a stroppy note from the rep saying that he is trying to run a business and that if we don't want to order we should at least have the courtesy to put the book back out because it is costing him money and wasting his time!

FlameDelacour · 20/07/2007 10:46

But we don't know you are on a mailing list. We just know we get houses x-y to sell to.

That's why its a good idea to put a note on the window/door

SaintGeorge · 20/07/2007 10:54

nogoes - that is a perfect example of a bad rep. Personally I would dob him in to his area manager (detail normally on book), but then I am an evil bitch at times.

CrookshanksWhiskers · 20/07/2007 11:44

We put the first Kleeneze book out on the step as soon as we got it, assumed the rep took it as it disappeared then got 3 stroppy notes asking us to put it out. Put the next one out on the day specified in the letter, the rep didn't turn up & after 3 days of torrential rain we had to bin a book that had swelled to the size of a yellow pages. Now they go straight into our blue bin.

I don't want to put a note on my door. I don't think it would look very attractive, and I don't think that anyone would pay any attention anyway. I'm afraid that I think people throwing away the catalogues has to be considered as part of the job should you decide to do it, and really the same goes for people being rude. It may be annoying and even upsetting at times, but that is because you are disturbing people who haven't asked to be disturbed to sell them something they probably don't want.

saffy202 · 20/07/2007 22:22

We once lost the Kleeneze book and I thought the man was going to have a nervous breakdown over it! He kept coming back to see if we had found it, like I had nothing better to do than look for something I hadn't even wanted.

He got the message when dh answered the door to him at 8.00am on a Saturday morning

Last week I got a phone call from a lady at BT asking if I'd received my new phone book. I thought I had, but that wasn't good enough so she told me it had a white cover. I had received it so she asked if I'd check to see if it was the right date (surely something to check before distribution! I kept telling her it was in the recycling. Finally she asked if I'd been satisfied with delivery so I said no as I'd never wanted it delivered in the first place. Only then did she give up and thank me for my time. This of course all took place over supper time for DD1 and Witching Hour for DD2. Only once have I actually been at home for a phone book delivery so was able to chase the van down the street and fling my delivery back on the back of the van.

Wow, I am an Avon lady and didn't realise how much this pisses people off.
I put the catalogue through but I don't knock for it back, I put a card through asking for it to be left out the next day, if nothing then I knock, and then I leave it.
The catalogues cost me 30p a go, not a huge amount but I reuse them with about 3 or 4 other customers so I need buy more if they get binned.
AND I recycle all of them once finished with (well, sometimes, otherwise they go to a local college for art classes!)

Like other people have said, it is right next to your door, how hard is it to open the door and put it outside?

RedFraggle · 21/07/2007 15:39

I fling them straight back outside. If you are fast enough they see you do it! Still never stops them from doing it again as often it is different people each time. YANBU though - I hate the fact that having a letterbox/ telephone means people think they have the right to bombard me with crap! Oh and I am TPS listed, yet they STILL do it... Tried to opt out of mail but STILL get it. Very annoying.

wheresthehamster · 21/07/2007 15:48

These poor people are not mindreaders!!
If you don't like it - leave a note out with the catalogue. As others have said - what's the difference between putting it in the recycling bin and putting it out on the doorstep? They are usually in a plastic bag just put them straight out.

coddy · 21/07/2007 15:56

the minute i get it i dump it bakc out
