To be pissed off that Ocado have just delivered organic spring onions from EGYPT in the (alleged) summer?

Why on earth do they have to import them from there. Surely we can grow our own in UK?

OP posts:
bozza · 18/07/2007 13:09

Well I have been getting them every week for several weeks in my box delivery and they have UK against them.

So the verdict is: YANBU

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 13:09

i may email them

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 13:16

OP posts:
oliveoil · 18/07/2007 13:16

oh yes, in my concrete garden

plus it is pissing down all the time = no sun

moondog · 18/07/2007 13:18

My mother has an allotment.
She does nowt but drink wine in it.
Tis a veritable dustbowl.

I have had an ongoing row with Tescos ( I know, should get out more) in Bangor which sells mussels from Scotland when it is about 2 miles from the Menais Straits which has the biggest fucking mussel beds in Europe.

Idiots.

bagpuss · 18/07/2007 13:21

YANBU. This makes me cross too.

Moondog, I'm surprised at that, I thought the Welsh were usually very pro their own produce, even in Tescos?

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 13:21

well your mother clearly does not have the SW14 matron/rottweiler cross types patrolling her allotments and demanding an unreasonable level of work..

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 13:22

so
go and gather your own you lazy cow

ahh lovely memories of musseling in S of france as children

OP posts:
moondog · 18/07/2007 13:28

Bagpuss,yes we are!
At least we try to be.
i hate Tescos.
Involved in demo their last week. They are tring to prevent workers speaking Welsh now.Fucking unbelievable.

Ah,I have fond memories of harvesting oysters in South Pacific with parents and sisters as a child.

bozza · 18/07/2007 13:28

Now apples are less straightforward. I cannot seem to actually find any from the northern hemisphere atm. The faves seem to be NZ or SA.

bozza · 18/07/2007 13:30

Sorry for adding a mundane element to the thread....

Hathor · 18/07/2007 13:30

Perhaps that is because apples are not in season in the northern hemisphere dear.

I once went to Tesco and tried to buy only things from this country. Didn't get much

Hathor · 18/07/2007 13:31

Moondog that is discriminatory surely you have a legal case?

Hathor · 18/07/2007 13:33

Moondog "My mother has an allotment.
She does nowt but drink wine in it. "

Countess "i have been sacked from my allotment for not having my lettuces in straight enough rows "

any connection

moondog · 18/07/2007 13:33

Hathor, surprisingly enough in private enterprise there is no leagal right to speak our mother tongue.
Something that we are all working on.

OrmIrian · 18/07/2007 13:33

No YANBU.

I used to pick spring onions in the UK. Don't know if they were organic though Can't beleive there weren't any available.

bagpuss · 18/07/2007 13:34

Our local Waitrose has a few shelves of locally produced veg and fruit now so I always go for that.

Moondog at Tescos, Maybe I'll avoid on our next hol then (5 weeks and counting, cannot wait!)

Lilymaid · 18/07/2007 13:35

Waitrose was selling onions from NZ last week. I understand about apples coming from southern hemisphere during our spring/summer, but onions? It did have potatoes from a farm that I had passed en route to the supermarket - though these may have been transported to the other side of the country for packaging and then sent back.

moondog · 18/07/2007 13:36

As you can see Bagpuss

Hope you're not avoiding Wales. You are most welcome! Just Tescos.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 18/07/2007 13:37

YANBU.

Of course there are no local apples, though. They would have to be last year's and would be foul by now, even if stored unorganically in inert gas, surely?

bagpuss · 18/07/2007 13:38

No not Wales, we are going there in the last week of August .

Hathor · 18/07/2007 13:39

Will avoid Tesco's even more strenuously now Moondog.
