To ask if this is a splinter? What do I do?!

I'll start by saying that I'm a proper wimp and I hate feet...

This has been on my toe for about two weeks. We've had some renovation work done in the house so lots of sharp things around, but I didn't see any sign of a splinter initially. DP thought athletes foot (Envy)

It's started hurting pretty badly last night and my toe is now quite swollen. I've got tweezers and dettol but I'm not totally sure what I'm looking for... it's very painful to touch. I can't necessarily feel a splinter but there does seem to be a tiny white thing in the middle.

DP is desperate to pick at it. Do I soak it? Rub it with an onion? Put a plaster over it?

Put a hot compress on it....with some salt in the water. Hold it on and keep re-dipping the flannel in the hot water and reapplying.

Then get DP to squeeze it a bit. See what happens.

Get thee to the pharmacy and get some Magnesium Sulphate paste, some cotton wool and tape.

Stir paste, dollop it onto wound, pop cotton wool over the top and then tape. The magsulph will draw out a splinter or swelling.

if you have a very small mouthed jar or bottle, half fill it with boiling water and place your splinter on it and try to make a seal, the pressure created should help suck the splinter out

Soak in salty water several times a day. Give a gentle swipe with a towel to remove any spongy dead skin. If you see anything protruding, nip it out.
