LOL, well I don't condone violence and I'm sure it wouldn't solve anything but it would feel good.

My OH usual quote is "There is no such thing as a stupid question, they are just the easiest to answer" (I don't really know what he means to be honest)

Maybe he couldnt figure out how to put it together and was hoping that itwas because you had missed a bit, rather than that he is a numpty who cant assemble a child gate
