AIBU to be astounded that CSA have chosen to write off my kid's maintenance debt?

Just that. Letter out of the blue that they have decided that the debt is permanently unrecoverable so THEY have chosen to write it off!

It's not their fucking money! It's mine and my kids!

Have been on hold for 20 minutes and no luck of getting through on to the CSA 'helpline'.

Can they really do this?

That was the original system which didn't work!

Starlight456 · 04/05/2019 18:52

I bet the government will be releasing figures of how much less is outstanding and the cms is a sucesss 🙄

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 05/05/2019 09:38

Child support needs a good overhaul for both RP and NRPs. Too many on both sides don't pay.

There are little sanctions for failing to provide for a child. It should be illegal to not financially provide yourself via work for a child you chose to have. Harsher punishments may mean people think twice before deciding to proceed with large financial decisions.

Totally ridiculous. Peopple who have benefit overpayment are hounded yet the CSA do jack to help kids

Why are they allowed to wipe it off?
They are worse than useless they've fucked up my claim and I'm getting about £40 a month less than I should be (it's gone up from £3.50 so I should be thankful Hmm)

Give none paying parents the same sanctions as if they were on uc.
When they had the baby they signed up to support them for life and now aren't sticking by their terms so sanction them.

FangsTasticBeast · 08/05/2019 20:21

I got the same letter 🙄

thebabessavedme · 08/05/2019 20:25

i got the letter, my dd is now an adult, I have never had a penny, the debt, according to csa original assesment is well over £100,000 - I will never see any of this, however, once I received the letter I did a bit of snooping, found his address etc and have let them know, all I hope is that they do contact him so that maybe HE can have a fwe sleepless nights worrying about money.

CSA were fucking useless nearly 30 years ago and I see nothing has changed. what a bloody joke.

thebabessavedme · 08/05/2019 20:27

btw, I regard that money as mine

Sagradafamiliar · 08/05/2019 20:31

When I received the letter, my ex also received a copy. He went out drinking to celebrate and sent a text thanking me (he's so fucking thick he thought I'd told them to wipe the debt)

Jedd · 08/05/2019 20:33

My case transferred from the CSA to the CMA and I was sent a letter asking if I consented to his £18k arrears to be written off. I didn't consent, and now the CMA are recovering this money directly from his bank account monthly, even though my daughter is now an adult.

They don’t need harsher sanctions available to deal with NRP’s who don’t pay - they just need to use the wide ranging powers the actually have.

That’s the scandal. The powers are there from wage arrestment to prison. There’s just no political will to use them.
