I've confused myself.
If a client has paid an invoice today using BACCs and says it will be in my account in three days, would this be tuesday or wednesday?
I'm presuming it's working days, and obviously there's a bank holiday, but am unsure if today, the day the payment is made is included.
And whether there's any chance it would go in earlier or whether it is rigid with the three days?

I don't normally have to worry as they pay on time! I'm going on holiday next week so am trying to work out when the money will hit.

With BACS I'd always go for working days.

elf1985 · 02/05/2019 14:09

As above normally working days but normally a Saturday will count with bacs

Aberforthsgoat · 02/05/2019 14:09

so most likely wednesday in that case do you think?
I just can't work out whether it's paid today, processed tomorrow and paid tuesday or whether it would be wednesday

Day 1 is usually the day it’s sent if I paid something today though i’d expect it to arrive on Tuesday. Weekends and bank holidays are ‘non processing days’

Aberforthsgoat · 02/05/2019 14:11

oh that's interesting @elf1985 didn't realise that.
I do have savings but have to go to the bank to actually access them [so I don't fritter on coffee and crap!] and am just working out whether I need to do that before I go away, or whether it's likely to be in at the very start.

It'll be tuesday, today to send it from their bank to BACS, tomorrow for processing at BACS and Tuesday for it to be sent to your bank from BACS. You should see it as a pending payment into your bank tomorrow if you have such a facility.

Aberforthsgoat · 02/05/2019 14:13

@mrspnut thank you! so saturday doesn't count then - I'd seen conflicting things that said if it was processed on the friday, it could go into the account on saturday but that didn't make sense to me.
I do having a pending payment facility - so if I don't see it tomorrow, I guess that means they're not telling the truth or it's not going to be in til Wednesday

I would check in Saturday and then pop in for savings if it's not there. But most likely will be. Everytime I transfer from my savings, if it's a Thursday it will be there Saturday. Bear in mind that bacs is upto 3 days so could be earlier.

Gribbie · 02/05/2019 14:16

If paid by Bacs today (Thursday) then it will be in your acct Tuesday. If they’ve paid it via online banking then you might get it today.

Aberforthsgoat · 02/05/2019 14:16

ah I wonder if that's because it's going from your accounts rather than a business account...is this when you transfer between accounts at the same bank?

The way they framed it sounded like it has been paid this morning.

Saturdays. Sundays and bank holidays don’t count for Bacs. I work in the industry Smile

Gribbie · 02/05/2019 14:18

Online banking payments are almost always faster payments so very quick, minutes. Bacs go via a different method. For both it doesn't matter who both parties bank with.

Gribbie · 02/05/2019 14:20

If you transfer between accounts at the same bank they’ll (very probably) do it via their own system and not invoke a faster payment.

For all of my info there are a few exceptions.

Aberforthsgoat · 02/05/2019 14:22

@gribbie thank you! I was thinking (and hoping) Tuesday.
Which would be fine.
Just a quick question - previous posters have mentioned I should be able to see if on pending payments tomorrow - not that I'm doubting them, but as you work in the industry - if I can't see it in pending payments tomorrow does that mean it's not going through?

Hmm. Possibly. It depends how your bank handles the file. They’ll get the file from Bacs tomorrow ready to apply to accounts on Tuesday. If I had to guess I’d say it’s unlikely you’d see it as pending tbh.

Not often I get to help anyone with my geeky knowledge Grin
