Posting in here for traffic. Can’t get a gp appointment til next week. I have this patch of red, sore skin at the outer corner of my eye. Any ideas what it could be and how do I soothe it til I see the doc? Pic attached.

Do you get hayfever? I get a patch like that when I react to tree pollen, even if my eye isn't watering. Antihistamine sorts it.

What above poster said...

I get this from Have you been rubbing the area at all?!

Illy603 · 01/05/2019 22:00

**hayfever, sorry.

Tighnabruaich · 01/05/2019 22:06

No I don’t suffer from hay fever, and don’t have any allergies. The only time I touch the area is cleaning and putting on makeup.

I get eczema round my eyes and it looks a lot like this. Hydrocortisone is the only thing that helps although it's not recommended for near the eyes. Could you ask a pharmacist?

rabbitheadlights · 01/05/2019 22:10

I would take an antihistamine and see what happens my dad developed hayfever in his 40s after never having it previously

Tighnabruaich · 01/05/2019 22:11

Good idea about asking pharmacist. I’ll go in tomorrow. Thanks.

I get this when my eyes water a lot. Vaseline as often as possible really helps it.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 01/05/2019 22:12

I second twinklebee - DS gets eczema around his eyes and it looks very similar to your photo.

Threeminis · 01/05/2019 22:21

There has been a 'pollen bomb" reported recently, it may be that although you don't normally suffer from hayfever the pollen is affecting your eyes at the moment - an antihistamine wouldn't hurt

goldenchicken · 01/05/2019 22:22

Take anti histamines. Take 2.

Could be hayfever. Poss conjunctivitis.

Hope you are OK tomorrow. Smile

Hydrocortisone cannot be sold for use on the face, that will require a prescription. Vaseline will help soothe it, a pharmacist may be able to recommend something else.

Thanks all.

I had patches near my eyes when I was pregnant. They wouldn't give me steroid cream but did give me something called simple eye ointment which helped a bit

Tiffw3 · 23/10/2020 15:04

So what the outcome? I am having this same issue!

DorisDances · 23/10/2020 16:28

Are your eyes prominent at all? Do you have lid lag? This soreness can accompany Thyroid Eye Disease

DorisDances · 23/10/2020 16:42

Ah, just realised this is a ZOMBIE THREAD!

AibuTellMe · 23/10/2020 16:48

My hay fever causes my eyes to run and get sore there but yours looks SORE.

Irishbeauty6 · 23/04/2021 22:54

Did you ever find out what this was?? I have that same exact thing and can’t find any answers?
