Chest infections & coughing for almost 3 months...?!

Hi all

Wanted to post here for traffic. I've just had to call my doctors 132 dimes to even get through to speak to them.

I've been 'ill' since February. Went to doctors and saw the nurse who said she could hear some crackles & gave me Amoxicillin for 7 days. Took it and was still coughing after for a couple of weeks but felt a bit better. Then 6 weeks (ish) ago I started coughing again really chesty and phlegmy (tmi) - I went away for the weekend and whilst away my friends commented on my cough and how unfit I was as I was getting out of breath easily.

So I went to the Drs again and he asked lots of questions the heart issues in family & about lifestyle etc. Listened to chest and said had s bad chest infection - another 7 days of amoxicillin given. Also sent for ECG (normal) chest X-ray and bloods.

It's now almost a week since I've finished that course and I'm worse than ever, no appetite tired all the time and coughing loads.

WIBU to say I don't want more antibiotics I want something better?! I can't carry on like this...

Have you had the X-ray? I’m in the same boat - same as dbil and dsil and DS. It’s horrible.

Thehop · 29/04/2019 11:07

Could you be asthmatic?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/04/2019 11:08

I’m guessing you aren’t a smoker or live with one?

PeachQueen · 29/04/2019 11:10

@LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD

Could you have whooping cough? It's known as the 100-day cough in France. You don't always have the whoop! Utterly miserable. A family member needed two rounds of abs to beat it.

TantricTwist · 29/04/2019 11:11

You need different anti-biotics for a start that should work better for you such as Clarithromycin. Go back to your GP and get this cleared up.

@Thehop

He gave me an inhaler to use but honestly made it worse and didn't notice anything better whilst using.

I don't smoke neither does my DH.

I'm full of cold too and can't smell or taste - great!

My uncle is in hospital currently with a lung infection which didn't show in X-ray only on CT.

Mind is racing....
