Eating chicken that's been defrosted, refrozen and re-defrosted (?!)

NC for this - my mother has requested I put this to the Mumsnet jury.

She would like to know whether it's OK to eat a chicken curry (homemade) that was cooked, frozen, defrosted on a counter with the lid on, heated up then refrozen. Is this asking for food poisoning?

I always thought you should never re-freeze but google has mixed opinions..

No you shouldn't.

BillywilliamV · 28/04/2019 08:37

DH would but I wouldn’t let him feed it to me or the DC.

GoFiguire · 28/04/2019 08:37

If you eat that then you will die. HTH.

Barkybarkynutnut · 28/04/2019 08:38

Ew no

Mrsjayy · 28/04/2019 08:38

No just bin it the chicken has been through to many sequences of defrosting.some mnetters with their iron stomachs will say it is fine but food poisoning from chicken can be fatal,

Winterfellismyhome · 28/04/2019 08:38

Nope 🤢

tinstar · 28/04/2019 08:39

No way.

Cooked, frozen, heated up - yes
Frozen again, to be reheated again - NO!!

Bisset · 28/04/2019 08:40

A big nope from me.

Theninjawhinger · 28/04/2019 08:40

Blurgh! No way!

sleepstealer · 28/04/2019 08:41

No

ByeByeBirdi · 28/04/2019 08:41

Frozen chicken defrosted then cooked in a curry, frozen, then heated up?
That's fine

Quickthrowaway · 28/04/2019 08:41

I would. But I wouldn’t feed it to anyone else and I’m make sure it was like lava before I ate it.

I’m horribly lax with things like this. Have never had food poisoning

wowfudge · 28/04/2019 08:42

If you change its state, then it fine to freeze then defrost and eat - so frozen raw chicken defrosted, made into curry then frozen is fine to defrost and eat but it shouldn't be frozen and defrosted again.

Banhaha · 28/04/2019 08:43

Not worth the risk.

CuriousAboutChicken · 28/04/2019 08:44

@ByeByeBirdi no - fresh chicken, cooked into a curry, frozen, then defrosted, then refrozen then defrosted again..

Thank you all Grin I was also on the side of 'no way' but occasionally you find out it's a myth..

You never defrost on the counter only in the fridge. Then reheat to piping hot and eat.

Refreezing it again is not a good idea though.

If it has rice already in it never, as toxins growing in rice isn't killed off by high temps.

PickAChew · 28/04/2019 08:46

Eurgh, no.

Spidey66 · 28/04/2019 08:47

I thought it was ok to refreeze chicken that had been cooked, but not raw.

CottonSock · 28/04/2019 08:47

No from me and I'm not picky

ThanksItHasPockets · 28/04/2019 08:48

I have an iron constitution but no.

Spidey66 · 28/04/2019 08:48

Oh I see it's been frozen twice after cooking. In that case no, I don't think so

CuriousAboutChicken · 28/04/2019 08:49

Mum's enjoying all the responses coming in. She said 'bet they're wondering how my daughter is alive to post!'

Curry has been binned. Thank you all for saving my parents' lives.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 28/04/2019 09:04

Why would you defrost it, heat it up then re-freeze it anyway?

luckylavender · 28/04/2019 09:08

No
