DC needed a new pair of trainers, we drove 30 minutes to the shop, he got measured and chose a lovely pair and all was good.

We went for a 45 minute walk around the block last night, the first time he has worn them and already the rubber at the bottom of the shoe is peeling and looks a mess. That's the only time he has worn them.

My DM thinks that as they are worn they won't accept a return however surely after one wear this shouldn't happen and I am within my right to return them due to the shoe peeling?

I don't want a refund I would like to exchange them for a sturdier pair of shoes.

Will they accept this?

I imagine they would, they clearly aren’t fit for purpose!

Cottipus · 26/04/2019 13:59

They were unfit for purpose so yes, the shop should refund them.

Yes they should do an exchange as a minimum.

I used to work in a shoe store and if we had a pair of shoes returned, even if worn a few times if they are falling apart and the buyer had the receipt we would exchange.

Which shop was it?

If it something like shoe zone then those shoes are not built to last and I would avoid.. however if it was Clark's or similar I would not expect this quality at all.

Shops are not legally obliged to give refunds UNLESS the item is faulty. Don’t let them fob you off with an exchange if you don’t want one.
