Please can you help me find this film?

I'm hoping someone can help me as it's been driving me mad for years (yes years!!).

I just saw a thread about AIBU helping someone find a song and I thought I'd try it for this film I've been desperate to remember.

I have really strong memories of watching an old film when I was younger. It was old fashioned, I think made in the 50s or 60s and in colour. It had a Jason And The Argonauts type story and feel.

The main memory I have is of the end scene where a large monster type ape creature fights and is killed in a pyramid or arena type place. I think this monster was good though, and was protecting people.

I watched Jason And The Argonauts at the weekend and it reminded me so much of this film, but it's not it! Sorry to be vague, these are the only memories I have of it.

Any ideas???

King Kong? Clash of the titans? It was on on Monday as well as Jason and the Argonauts. Loved them both when I was younger!

Was it in colour or B&W?

Clash of the Titans? It's years since I saw it so I can't remember the exact story but it was quite Jason and the Argonautsy

It reminds me of the troglodyte in that film(Sinbad and The Eye of The Tiger)

You're welcome. I'm glad you have an answer now. When you described it being a monster and like Jason and The Argonauts I thought it's got to be some of Ray Harryhausen's work and probably one of Sinbad films, having a memory of an troglodyte in one of them, though I couldn't remember exactly which.
