Apple and Google are currently hosting an app which allows Saudi Arabian men to track the movements of women including being alerted if they attempt to leave the country via their passport. They are aware of these apps and what they are used for but are refusing to remove them. They can and do remove apps for much more trivial reasons like making sales of goods offline using apps or adult content
Two Saudi sister have fled their abusive family and are pleading with Apple and Google to remove the app and have asked the UN Human Rights commission to intervene.
I know Apple and Google are a really tough one to have any impact against, but I hope maybe a lot of people tweeting or facebooking or instagramming might help, or deleting your card details and cancelling subscriptions on Apple Store and Google Store. I’m hoping that enough noise might compel them to take action and put a stop to this. I know Mumsnet is a great place to start because there’s so much support for women’s rights on here. There is a link to the story below and also a petition which can be signed and shared.
