Hair colour advice

I dyed my hair from black to ash blonde using a box dye, I didn't want blonde but it showed at the back of the box it goes a nice light brown colour. The colour lightened my hair more than I hoped at the roots. But it's got a reddish tone to it. It's actually a nice colour but doesn't suit me I think. Can I dye it a darker brown without it going green? Has anyone actually done this? Also can I do it on the same dye ?if anyone had tried this please let me know or will purple shampoo help?
Thanks

It's hard to say without seeing photos. Is your hair all the same colour now, or patchy? If it's all the same colour, putting a darker brown on top shouldn't make it go green, but it may damage your hair. Box dye can be quite damaging and doing it twice very close together may not be a good idea. At a minimum, I'd do a deep conditioning treatment before using more dye.

There’s a brilliant thread on ask me anything by an absolutely lovely hairdresser, I’ll link to it. Take photos so she can advise you properly but she’s brilliant x

chocolover12 · 25/04/2019 14:49

It's more or less all the same colour.
I will do a conditioning treatment but was hoping I can dye it again today or tomorrow?

If you want to go darker than just use a darker brown that has a warm tint; NOT an ash brown as that’s what brings the green.

I’m intrigued though as I am v dark brown naturally and have never managed to get anywhere near ash blonde with a box dye! What brand did you use and can we see??

Tingface · 25/04/2019 14:53

That’s not true about it not taking.

chocolover12 · 25/04/2019 14:56

Tingface im shocked too I use to use colours before and it never took like this at all. I used L'Oréal paris excellence creme. Thanks you I think I'll go and buy the darker warmer brown now.

Tingface even though I've already used a ash tone colour then going on to a warmer darker tone, you don't think I'll go green

I don’t see how you can, if you’re going darker and warmer.

Did you do it?

chocolover12 · 25/04/2019 19:55

Tingface I did and it's not green lol. It's gone ever so slightly darker but no real difference and I used a much darker brown. I don't know what to do now?

I posted a reply earlier but it's gone, strange. My understanding of dying black hair blonde is you need to strip out the colour then colour it (non hairdresser speak there!)

Google dying black hair blonde. A helpful page came up first when I did that. Now you've put brown over it, it's not good.
