Do you use hotel towels or bring your own

Conversation I had earlier with a friend has put me right off using hotel towels! She's an assistant manager of a 4 star hotel and said after 2 wedding receptions over Easter weekend some of the bath towels had to be thrown out where guests had been sick after too much alcohol and looked like they used the towels to clean up etc some in one room had worse on it (you can use your imagination). This can happen fairly regularly and the room cleaners wear gloves to put towels and bedding into one bag and clean toilet etc and then wearing the same gloves leave out fresh towels and change the beds with all those germs transferred! Then they move on to the next room and are on a strict timeframe to get them all done as quickly as possible! Laundry decides if towels should be thrown depending on how soiled they are but it all sounds disgusting to me! It's not practical to bring bath towels for all the family especially if going abroad but now after having a nice shower do you really want to wrap yourself up in one of these towels? Thoughts please! Btw I'm not totally OCD about cleanliness though I might sound it!!

As a teenager, I had a weekend job in a small family run hotel. I don't care whether I'm staying in a luxury boutique hotel or a room over a pub. I always bring towels from home. The only thing I use their towels for is to step on getting out of the bath or shower. Also, I never use glasses or cups in the room and I try not to think about what the pillowcase is covering up or I'd never sleep.

DH genuinely doesn't care and never packs his own towels.

I have enough in my suitcase without having to cart a load of towels around. All hotel towels I have used always seem clean and fresh, that's good enough for me. If you are funny about the towels, think about the bedding!

Eww but from that story you’d have to also bring your own bed sheets (plus clean everything the cleaner may have touched) if it was something you worried about?

I think it’s often best not to know about the cleaning practices of places where you stay... I used to work for a big holiday company as a cleaner on a campsite in Europe with static caravans - I probably wouldn’t stay in one having seen the cleaning methods/standards.

Oh FFS. No one catches anything from hotel towels. Just get over yourself.

There are billions of people on the planet, all of them touching one thing, then touching another, and then another; moving germs around ad infinitum.

At least the towels get a good boil every now and again, plus I tend to limit them the external use only and I have germs there already.

I always use hotel towels. In a good hotel they will have been sent out for laundering at a high temperature.

I will happily use whatever they leave for me in the room. I’ve yet to hear of someone getting ‘towel poisoning’ in a hotel.

Do you never wonder OP how our bodies function at all considering what we’re exposed to? The amount of wee in your takeaways and restaurant food. Everything you touch after a man has had a wank and used his wanky hand to open the door before you. Etc etc.

I have never caught anything from a hotel towel, or a hotel room for that matter.

I’ve never heard of people taking their own towels. What about sheets then? Surely they’re just as filthy??

They are industrially cleaned if there were germ issues or if people regularly got diseases from using hotels there would be health regulations similar to food handling wouldn’t there ?
Fuck sake how do you ever enjoy yourselves if you are always so easily freaked out ???

So the towels are gross, the beds are gross, the linens are gross, the glasses are gross.

It begs the question, why do you pay to stay in a hotel, if you think they're so disgusting?

No I don't take towels (or bed linen) with me on holiday as that would be insane.

If you think hotel towels are bad, you might not want to take too close a look at your keyboard, phone, remote, or kitchen sponge (even if you change it regularly!).

I always use the hotel towels. I don't have a car so travel by train/plane and don't really have room for extra towels.

I use hotel towels but take a freezer bag for the remote runs away

I knew there was a reason I don’t like staying in hotels.

I used to be a chamber maid and they used the same cloth for the toilet as they do the cups. I always take a tshirt to go over the pillow.

What a load of nonsense. There are far more germs on the door handles/stair rails than you'll find on a towel that's been through a hot wash.

I also take a pack of antibac wipes and wipe all the door handles , kettle etc

I always use hotel towels. I don't think it pays to think too much about what could have happened previously to everything you touch or what might be living in it.

I always use hotel towels bringing my own would take up too much room.in my case.

As with hospital towels they are boil wash within an inch of their lives.....nothing could survive🙄

For the love of god of course I don’t bring my own towels. What kind of batshittery is this?

I must have stayed in hundreds of hotels in my life. I use the towels, I drink from the mugs, I sleep in the bed. To be honest the bed is the one that worries me the most. However I have also stayed in hostels while backpacking around India. I've never got ill from any of them. Presumably my immunity has been built up being exposed to other peoples bottom germs on the towels

I should have said, it never occurred to me that anyone would take towels with them.
