I need to pee but can't pee

Sunlov · 23/04/2019 23:33

I feel like I need to pee, but when I go to the toilet, nothing happens.
I have the sensation of needing to pee, but the pee just isn't happening.
I've drank about a litre of water, still no pee. WTF?

Call 101 now. I'm certain it's easy to fix but not being able to empty your bladder is dangerous

ABC1234DEF · 23/04/2019 23:35

101 is the police, don't phone them.

This is an A&E trip at this time of night.

Are you constipated?
Have you taken any medication?
Had any procedure or anaesthetic recently?

rosydreams · 23/04/2019 23:38

Sunlov · 23/04/2019 23:40

Start by trying to pour some warm water in the area as you go. A squeeze bottle is ideal.

This is what I used after surgery and it can help and won’t hurt you to try it once.

Sunlov · 23/04/2019 23:41

All fine now I think.

It's probably a UTI, I had this, very strange. Could pee eventually, but over next few days became uncomfortable and tight feeling. I ended up going to doctors and they diagnosed UTI. Had antibiotics and all gone.

Chickpea99 · 23/04/2019 23:44

Good for you :).
There is a difference if you have a feeling of a very full bladder and pressure, but nothing comes out - then it is a pee retention and you would need a cateter to get it out.
Other (most common imo) - you have caught a bit cold and thinking and feeling that want to pee, but only drop comes out. You still want yo pee, but there us no full bladder pressure sensation.

englishdictionary · 23/04/2019 23:45

People really seek medical attention at the first sign of not peeing Hmm

OP I'm glad it worked itself out (literally)

Sunlov · 23/04/2019 23:46

It's like Murphy's law, the minute you say there's something wrong it resolves itself.

I have peed now.
I spent a half hour in and out of the loo to pee. Nothing happening.
All sorted now.

sounds like a uti then you need antibiotics the tell tale sign is that you feel the need to pee but cant yet when your bladder is full you can pee but over time you keep feeling the need to pee even when you dont.

ABC1234DEF · 24/04/2019 11:23

Best case scenario, UTI. Worst case? Cauda equina syndrome possibly leading to paralysis (have had this, very unpleasant. Resulted in emergency spinal surgery). A urolith causing a total blockage resulting in bladder rupture. Seen this but not experienced it. Not sure which would be preferable Confused

englishdictionary · 24/04/2019 15:13

Oh come on, that's a ridiculous jump from simply not being able to pee for a bit.

Standard Mumsnet though...

Sunlov · 24/04/2019 15:31

I've had a condition about a year ago where I didn't pee for 3 days so thought that might be back. Peeing like a good thing now! Grin
