to think its not really 'Change' if Rachel Johnson is a candidate?

I have been very interested in the new Change UK party (Independent Group) and as a disillusioned Labour voter thought they might be someone I could vote for. However, they had about 3000 applications to stand for the 70 candidate spots for the EU elections and Rachel Johnson has been chosen to stand. I am disappointed. It just seems more of the same jobs for mates type of attitude that seems to be rife in politics. She has always come across as extremely self serving, not like she has helped her community in any way (unless there's something I don't know about).

Anyway, it seemed to start as a centrist Labour vehicle but now seems to be more tory centred. Any thoughts?

I don't mind her. I can see what you are saying, but she's one of many?

HoneysuckIejasmine · 23/04/2019 13:28

She seems to agree her brother (Boris, not Jo) is a total wanker, so that's a positive?

ConfCall · 23/04/2019 13:31

She has a mind of her own, she’s ex Lib Dem.

She is clever and articulate.

Great candidate imo but the proof will be in the pudding if she’s elected. We’ll see.

Honeysuckle Grin guess I was hoping for something a little more positive!

It will be interesting to see what other policies they have rather than just to remain in the EU. I signed up to their newsletter and just get quite a lot of requests for 'support'. This is always financial support.

I suspect they can see the great PR in having Boris's sister stand on an opposing platform.

NoBaggyPants · 23/04/2019 14:26

You're unreasonable for thinking CHUK is anything other than another establishment party, and they've always been more Tory than they have Labour, the ex Labour MPs were all Blairites.

What are your thoughts on their other policies?

LoafEater · 23/04/2019 14:51

I used to like her until I was told what she did after Grenfell and I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her.

My friend is a MH nurse who lives in W London. She spent days after the fire volunteering and helping the survivors. Word went round that the Queen was coming 20 minutes before she arrived. Ten minutes before her arrival, a cab pulls up with RJ in it, who hops out, elbows her way to the front of the line to meet the Queen and gets her photo in the paper. As self-serving as her odious brother.

mamaslatts · 23/04/2019 16:04

nobaggypants I guess that is partly my point. I don't know what there other policies are yet apart from a centrist agenda. I'm aware the ex Labour MPs are Blairites but I class that as Labour, maybe some don't. It depends whether you see Labour as the 'broad church' that it (used) to be.

LoafEater that doesn't surprise me. She seems a massive social climber and I remember her using her column to constantly ask Pippa Middleton for tennis games Hmm
