To hope I won’t be charged excess baggage?

I’m going on holiday with my baby daughter tomorrow and have had to bring along a stash of baby food pouches in case she rejects everything there. I’ve already decanted a lot of stuff into my husbands case, but still think my case is pretty heavy. I can’t find my scales to check!

I’ve never been charged excess baggage before, despite being a couple of kgs over the limit. Would I be unreasonable to hope that I might dodge it? Of course I know Thomas Cook would be entirely within their rights to charge me!

Thomas Cook are militant about baggage weight. Check if taking an extra bag costs less than excess fees. That happened to a friend of mine, her bag was over and the charge was ridiculous she asked how much it would be for an extra bag and then went to the baggage shop in the airport (always wondered why that was before security) and stuck half her luggage in a new bag.

Obviously I have no idea if your bag is overweight but yes you are risking a charge if it’s over what is should be and you can’t transfer it to another bag. With Thomas Cook your lap infant does get a 10kg checked bag allowance so perhaps you could call (unless another poster knows) and confirm if this needs to be in it’s own suitcase or if you can combine it with your baggage allowance. www.thomascookairlines.com/en/book-plan/extras/baggage/infant-baggage.jsp
Failing that, baby food isn’t difficult to find so unless you’re going somewhere very remote I’d just buy it there rather than risk extortionate baggage fees.
