Bastard pissing jet skis

Having a lovely day at the beach with family and some absolute tit on a jet ski was going round and round in circles for a good 2 hours solidly. It was like sitting next to a motorway. It’s just about bearable if they just zoom past on their way to somewhere but this guy was just doing laps of the cove. It’s fairly cliffy so it was just echoing and even louder.

I totally understand that it’s probably quite fun to zoom about on them. But how the hell can they not realise they are disturbing absolutely everyone else? They haven’t put the 5 knot buoys out yet and it was terrifying watching how fast this idiot was going near swimmers.

Aibu to want to shoot the lot of them?

They’re so anti-social. Especially just going round and round in the same area. People just don’t give a shit as long as they’re doing what they want to. ☹️

EntirelyAnonymised · 21/04/2019 17:37

Horrible things. Noisy, deadly, ugly.

BoneyBackJefferson · 21/04/2019 17:39

I put these threads in the category as the people that walk dogs in the summer threads.

These people are probably out every weekend with their hobby and are probably thinking the same about you.

Macaroonmayhem · 21/04/2019 17:39

Can I jump in and say I feel the same way about drones. Go anywhere nice and there they are whirring noisily overhead. Lovely for the one person who gets the lovely footage of the beautiful place to enjoy forever, shit for everyone else whose time at the lovely spot was ruined by the fecking drone. Oh, I feel better for getting that out!

RocketSurgery · 21/04/2019 17:57

boney why would people on the beach annoy people on jet skis?

OP posts:
Aquamarine1029 · 21/04/2019 17:57

We holiday on a lovely lake and jet skis are banned there. I HATE those things.

RocketSurgery · 21/04/2019 17:58

macaroon I don’t think I’ve ever seen a drone flying anywhere. Our local beauty spot specifically says no drones as it’s MOD land (although not Ulysses at all). I’ll keep my eyes out for them now.

OP posts:
RocketSurgery · 21/04/2019 17:58

*used, why the hell would my phone think I’d be typing Ulysses?

YANBU. Jet skis are lethal things yet people seem to treat them as if they were as harmless as a rubber dinghy (which shouldn't be on the sea either but that's another thread)

Macaroonmayhem · 21/04/2019 18:03

Highland Scotland here, I was at one beautiful spot and there were THREE of the damn things. Sunset at a famous beach - one hovering and swooping all over. Grrrr😡

You mentioned swimmers as well.

One of the things that I have noticed about people in general is that as soon as the sun comes out, areas that are usually empty, beaches, woodland, forest walks, nature reserves etc. are suddenly full of people that demand those that are there every week/day in all weathers are the ones that are supposed to leave, so that they can have a good time.

RocketSurgery · 21/04/2019 18:40

boney ah, that’s true. Although I’m more in your camp as I’m swimming every day of the year and it’s only when the suns out that I fear for my life with jet skis. Or when my nemesis the seal is around but I don’t begrudge him so much.

RocketSurgery · 21/04/2019 18:42

brizzle there are teenagers round here that ride them from 13/14. There’s no required training or age limits, you report to the harbour master, they get a bit of a telling off and are back doing it the next day 🙄.

We live by the sea and have them all summer. Horrid noise pollution.

Abra1de · 21/04/2019 18:49

Macaroon YES! And bloody motorised paraglider things that go back and forward over our garden.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/04/2019 19:16

I live near a beach and as far as i know jet skis are only allowed in a certain area...or least they always seem to stick to a certain area

MuddyMoose · 21/04/2019 19:21

I always remember as a young child swimming at a local beach with lots of other children in the sea too. A bloke on a jet ski thought it would be funny to purposely drive through a bunch of jelly fish chopping them up & causing them to fill the sea resulting in numerous stung kids including myself.

CheshireChat · 21/04/2019 19:28

We were at the beach yesterday and the jet skis weren't bothering anyone as they were quite far out so that's an easy fix.

RocketSurgery · 21/04/2019 19:47

It would be an easy fix if they did stay out. But round here they don’t, they’re allowed to go anywhere. Technically they’re supposed to go less than 5 knots a certain distance away from the shore. At the moment though the 5 knot buoys aren’t out and even when they are, they’re mostly ignored.

OP posts:
CheshireChat · 21/04/2019 20:18

That's rubbish and it should be enforced better.

HorseOutside · 21/04/2019 20:22

I live close to a lake & all I've heard all day is the constant whine of jet skis. It'll be the same the whole summer Angry

HexagonalBattenburg · 21/04/2019 20:29

We get them and speedboats blasting up and down the river at my mum's (she lives on a riverbank) all summer long. It's annoying - but also mildly amusing as the river patrol boat tries desperately to chase them down while they just obliterate the river speed limit and take the piss openly.

MyMumDimensionJumps · 21/04/2019 20:32

YADNBU

There is a name for these guys: chodes.

I absolutely detest Jet Skis and the chodes that are on them. They are usually middle aged braggy testosterone crazed pricks living some tragic James Bond fantasy. Agree that a lot of them ride dangerously close to the beach too.

DointItForTheKids · 21/04/2019 20:41

I had no strong feelings either way until I went on holiday in Asia to a very small island where a young couple with a 4 yo little boy had worked very hard to set up their own little holiday resort. The hubby went on holiday with his missus, got smashed into by a jet ski, and was killed. I think they're awful, awful things. Motorbikes (which are bad enough as we all know) are restricted largely to travel that takes place in straight lines or otherwise prescribed routes where fellow bikers/traffic travel in the same direction. Jetskis - all that conformity of route goes out the window. They go round and round and round on a powerful machine and it's just sheer dumb luck that prevents there being even more fatal collisions.

cleomummy · 21/04/2019 21:23

I am not keen on them either and find often they are very inconsiderate. We visit my dps holiday home regularly all year. Last summer we were on the beach and it was busy with loads of boats moored up anyway. About 20 jet skiers turned up all at once creating huge waves, they were like hells a angles. Apparently they had come from quite a distance. They all just parked up very close to the shore literally blocking most of the beach so no-one could get into the sea from
The shore as they were in the way. There was little space anyway because of the moored boats too. Then they all roared off after a few hours, going much faster than the speed limit. Very selfish
